Trout 0
Can any member advise me on what sound moderator to get for a .17hmr browning T bolt Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
How much is your budget? A cheap and cheerful SAK around £35 will do the job, but not nearly as well as a dedicated .17 moderator, PES/MAE make some superb moderators and do a dedicated .17 job, but expect to pay, I have one on the .243 and it is very good indeed, but remember you will never get rid of the sonic crack of the bullet breaking the sound barrier, no matter how good the moderator, so ask yourself, for a relatively puny round, limited in its applications, IE rabbit, occasional fox etc. like a .17 hmr is it worth spending a lot of money? jacknife 2,005
A sak rimfire mod for about £30 I have Sak on mine and have tried my T8 on it............no difference As Charlie Caller above has said only a dedicated .17 Hmr mod will make a difference Quote Link to post
Tremo 138
I had a Swift Precision Nightingale on my HMR. It was dedicated for that calibre and I did find it better than the SAK. It was £125 though. Significantly more dosh than the humble SAK. There are plenty of decent mods out there these days, but IMHO, if sound suppression is not the top of your priority (e.g. for local houses etc.) I would most probably suggest the SAK. Deker 3,478
This question goes round and round, it should be pinned, the answer is always the same. Unless you have a very good reason not to, then simply get a SAK. Quote Link to post
