fat man 4,741
Frost wont keep them to ground, they may shelter from the cold at some time in the night but on a brisk frosty morn they will be out and about hunting. The best weather i find for keeping foxs to ground is wet with a cold wind blowing then they are happy to lie up until it passes, jmo. 7 Quote Link to post

I dug two on Tuesday from seperate places. Tried 6 different spots today after the fog and frost not a bark. Edited January 22, 2015 by THE GENERAL Quote Link to post

neil cooney 10,416
Thought with havin some frost this mornin we would be guaranteed some sport but 3 different places and nothing at home .. Anyone else having same issues ? 3 places ? I'd be worried about a lack of foxes if I tried 23 places and they were empty, but 3 is a quick stroll. If the fox was always to ground he'd probably be extinct by now. You'll learn in different areas when foxes will be to ground. A friend of mine used to love trying earths after dinner time on a Saturday or Sunday. He lived in heavily shot country and most of the land would have been beat that morning. I've even known foxes to go to ground on scalding hot Summer days because I presume it's cooler under ground. But like has been said cold, wet , windy weather usually puts them under. Then again, I've seen hounds drawing bogs in storms and there would be foxes running in all directions. We'll never know it all. Quote Link to post
