cocpops 19
Looking for some advice I have two permissions both have small ponds. Occasionally ducks are there and I've got one or two. I'd like to entice ducks in. How do I make it more attractive ? What's a good food to put out.

RusstheDuck 0
Barley is good but wheat linseed rape or grass seed all good . Never used spuds
taz2010 1,297
rotten spuds are one of the best around, find them better than seeds imo
Lloyd90 509
I've heard spuds are good BUT they can poison the water so if any animals on the land drink it they could die and you'd soon lose your permission so be careful. Barley wheat done the job for me, hard work getting down to feed the pond during daylight whilst working too tho, don't want to disturb them ideally during the night
terry the rat 1
A bit late to start feeding only a few days of the season left your going to be better off to leave it until the beginning of august for the start of next season

Beefbeefbeef 10
I've heard all kinds of things will work and had plenty of success with all the above (not tried bananas) but the most important thing is to make sure there is always food available otherwise the duck will go elsewhere, particularly if you are in an area where there are several people feeding flight ponds. Skull Hooker 185
I use barley but I do know a bloke that uses bananas. Make sure the ponds aren't too deep. Feed on a sloping shelf, pointless throwing it in deep water cos they wont get it. Edited February 25, 2015 by Skull Hooker
Rabid 1,936
Also make sure you have a good flight line into the pond, you want a shallow part to feed them, start off small, only feed what is been eaten, they will start to come in numbers and you need to up the feed, water + food = ducks. I have fed some ponds where you think no chance of duck, and ended up with 200+ ducks coming in every evening
