Trapping Dvd's

Recommended Posts

Some nice trap boxes there myersbg. Mine are a bit more basic than yours, they look like a bird box and have two baffles in with a mk4 in perfect position for a neck strike almost every time....If I put up any boxes that were obvious they would be nicked. Keep the pics coming...

A mate of mine has his own saw mill,so when i need some boards, i just give him a shout,[lucky really].

I love scrating and making things, especially when you can use them for work, i spend hours in the sulking shed, today i was making some Barn owl boxes for a customer, i will take some pics tomorrow when its daylight and put them up,

When you say you have footage of every single legal trap in action ( excluding the lloyd )

Is that every "conventional" trap or is it everything as listed on the current stao ?

I have some of the most common traps here including norfolk style Imbras, lloyd's ,sawyer's ect but there are a couple on the list I'd be really interested in seeing.

Well, There are some ommisions, for example I don't have all the DOC sizes, just the one, but i've lots of footage of that.I also have lots of bodygrip footage, but i would be lying if i said i have footage of every BG size on the list. but, they are all much of a muchness IMO. I've never seen a Skins or a VS as i don't think they actually made them, just got them passed. But all the other spring traps on the list, then yes.

I hope I haven't mislead anyone.

Well it certainly sounds as though you've invested a lot of time and effort !

The footage would be really interesting to see as it's rare for us to actually see a trap working,

It may also help explain a few queries I have such as why I seem to get better results with the fenn rabbit over the mk6....

Id also like to see a doc, especially on rabbits as although the trap looks reasonable it seems to have been made almost impossible to use and yet still remain legal......

Come on mate, get editing :)

The fenn rabbit is a better trap than the mk6, the shape of the jaws have alot to do with it IMO. It also kills squirrels stone dead with better results too, though they are not legal to use on squirrels. I would say that it would be almost impossible to use a DOC for rabbits. The legal box makes this trap a white elephant. Which is a shame. But I have no doubt that it would flatten the biggest of rabbits with ease. Squirrels do not even flick their tail. Its a superb trap, just restricted by the foolish legislation that some fool deemed neccessary.

I've loads to do yet, but i'm a bit too busy until the end of feb. After that i plan on doing more.

If you plan on doing more and this type of filming is of interest to you then I may just have a challenge for you.... I have a vintage trap here that I'm currently restoring, it's one that never achived any kind of popularity for several different reasons..

It's a real rarity to see one and as far as I'm aware no one has any footage of one working let alone catching.....

It's ( in my opinion ) something that's well worth documenting ...

As and when it's finished I may just be getting back in touch :)

It's a good idea but dvds,as been said, will get copied or put on YouTube etc it's amazing how many Warrener Dvds you can pick for less then a fiver, even his latest ones fox bolting etc.

Glen waters old vids to dvd can still be found for £5-6 depending where you look. Just go on a video sharing website you can get most if not all fieldsports films

Ridiculous when you think of it, copying DVDs ?

None of them are expensive in the first place and if you collect them wouldn't you rather have an original than a bootleg?

Regarding all the footage you have JD, DVD or not it sounds like a lot of it could be used to assist any further legislation that might apply to trapping.

I hope you keep all of it and if you ever do make a DVD maybe an accompanying book (a DVD / book box set) might help combat the bootleggers.

Just an idea ?

Is it on the stao.......?

No mate it's not listed on the stao,

Luckily it's not a spring trap so requires only a few minimal additions to make it perfectly legal to use....( although I will be confirming this to be 100% sure before commencing )...

it's not a trap that I intend to use regulary , I'm only doing it for nostalgia but I would like to see it working even if it is only once.

I've got enough footage here to do one I reckon, with squirrels at least....I have footage of every single legal trap in action. (except one) I'm just on with making trap boxes with a clear perspex side to video the moment of impact. Just need a bit of spare time then I'm away. Rats are the next target. I like the idea of videoing their reactions to a trap, both baited and non baited....but we will see..

All that footage could be the foundation for a great dvd! Keep it safe, and add to it as you go along JD! Even if it takes another year or two to get all the footage you need, it'll be worth the wait i'm sure!

Would you go for it? Alot of people on here would buy it i'm sure, and a few would promote it too, and set you up with outlets !

By the way, you said all legal traps bar one! Which one? Tube Trap! Just curious!

No mate, i have loads of tube trap footage/catches. The one I need now is the lloyd trap. got everything else. I'm sure a good mate of mine will supply me one in due course when I return one of the other taps I lent off him.....also got a few bits of live catch trapping too....its all safe and tucked away on a hard drive somewhere...for when the time is right. The only problem with dvds is that they soon get copied and on the car booty for a fiver. The only way i can see around that is to sell them very cheap to start with then people will hopefully buy the genuine article....but, thats a long way off. I've been real busy with the trail cams last year, with plenty more to come.....

So you got yourself some tube traps...I said they were good, shame about the price.
