slipper 116
I would like mine shortened to make things easier to shoot out of the cab will there be much loss in power and will it cause muzzle flip? Quote Link to post
zx10mike 137
i have had 20" barrels that shot great out to 800 yds .the only reason to have a long barrel is if your target range is 1000 ish and every fps counts.plenty of a r type rifles have 16 " and shoot great out to 600.how far are you wanting to shoot?yes you will bleed fps but if not comp shooting at a high level i wouldn't worry. won't cause flip. zx10mike 137
cut it and find out even if it went down to 3000 you wont notice at 300 imo. 1 Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
My .223 was cut down from 25" to 18 and it's made a massive difference. Grouping unaffected, handling much better. For practical (realistic) hunting ranges the fps loss is nothing. I was told i may suffer from muzzle flash with the shorter barrel which could well be a problem when lamping but don't notice anything with the Norma 40gr that I use. 1 Quote Link to post
TWOTWOTHREE 152
Mine was cut down and its fine groups good and very consistant just use a reputable gun smith a bad job will mess it up 223 Quote Link to post

Gaz6br 193
Wouldn't have any less than 18 inch myself as a truck gun My 223 ackley sits at 22 inch with great speed 40gr nozlers at 3960 fps now that's messy Gaz Quote Link to post
jollyscotsman 11
Think youl lose about 25fps per inch?,if i remember correctly, with the .223 using a faster burning powder, loss on barrel lengths is minimal, as its all burned up at about 16,18 inches on regular loads.
