Blackbriar 8,569
Amid accusations of whitewash and cover-up, the long-awaited Chilcott report into the circumstances leading up to the Iraq War, has been delayed and will not now be published until after the General Election, despite beginning it's enquiries 6 years ago ! CamMoron says the enquiry should have been started sooner and the delay is "extremely frustrating". Nick Clegg says the delay is " incomprehensible".While Ed Millipede hasn't said very much at all, Saint Tony of Blair has stated (predictably ?) that he is not responsible, and is frustrated at not having the opportunity to clear his name (!). Lord Chilcott says the reason for the delay is to allow those to respond to his findings. But shouldn't that happen AFTER publication, not before ? Can we expect Labour to acknowledge that Blair lied ? Can we expect CamMoron to acknowledge that the Tories believed Blair's lies ? How much will the report be 'revised' after those involved have been allowed an input ? My real concern is not for here today, gone tomorrow politicians, but for those families who lost their loved ones in an illegal war, perpetrated on a fabrication of lies and distortions. They, and we, deserve to know the unexpurgated truth, because those decisions are having repercussions that are looming large over us all to this day, and for many to come.
Country Joe 1,411
Gordon Brown said it would take a year.
Brigzy 1,298
They won't release it before the election because it will show that Blair, Campbell and Straw lied and produced "dodgy dossiers" to take us into an illegal war. The Tories backed them without investigating the evidence. If the truth comes out before the election, people will desert LibLabCon in droves for parties like UKIP, SNP, Greens, etc. the truth may never come out, as to many powerful people and interests have a lot to lose.
