drid 22
Would really appreciate the best advice between these 2 calibres !! Quote Link to post
Murphydog 30
What do you want to use it for? If sub 12ft lb I wouldn't touch .25 for anything other than close quarter ratting and similar. Not much pellet choice either. If FAC then it's a different story. Quote Link to post
Bunnyblatter 1,012
Out to 35 yards then the 25 has plenty of stopping power. Get past that then it lacks penetration but would give the bunnies a right old head ache !!! If I was shooting past that sort of distance then it would be .22 out of the choices you've given. However my calibre of chice is .20. Best calibre out there IMO Quote Link to post
digging-deep 518
.25 for FAC .22 for sub12 Quote Link to post
Rez 4,961
.25 for FAC .22 for sub12 + 1 Without a doubt. 1 Quote Link to post

Bunnyblatter 1,012
Yes but penetration is not very good with .25 in my experience. And what would the hold over be like at that range :-0 As I said .20 is my choice Quote Link to post
villaman 9,983
looking at .20 my self but after putting in all the figures into chair gun with .177 , .20 and .22 with different pellet weights , just cant see any point of it at the moment 1 Quote Link to post
Bunnyblatter 1,012
Try them mate. That's why I thought but haven't looked back since Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Neither .177 every time 1 Quote Link to post
mark williams 7,561
Watched a youtube film of a guy shooting rats with a .25 sub 12/ft lb air rifle and the rats were "off and away" on the discharge of the rifle the .25 pellet slowly followed - he shot nothing ! He then went on to .177 cal which proved to be a "devastating" rat buster. What ever calibre you choose in sub 12/ft lbs power does not matter, - hitting the vital areas (every time) does ! in my humble experience .177 cal . atb 1 Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
In my 35 years of shooting air rifles, a not so humble opinion, .177 rules in sub 12ftlbs. Quote Link to post
digging-deep 518
At the end of it its all down to personal preference, I myself prefer my .177 or my .22 but my shooting partner wouldn't Evan give space in his collection for a .177 Quote Link to post
villaman 9,983
Any of the cals will do the job ,just get to know your set up ie gun , scope , pellet 3 Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
For what live vermin we shoot with an air rifle at sub-12 ft'lbs energy, .22 and .177 does the job well enough. A rabbit having it's brains splattered in a fraction of a second's pellet impact is not thinking "Bloody Hell, .25 is pretty effective; but I prefer .22"!! And come to think of it, neither is it thinking: "Wow! That was a £2,000 Daystate Pulsar that hit me. I can die happy now, knowing I'm being killed by that gun instead of a £350 springer!
