johnny boy68 11,726
Just got in from having a practice on Todber manor's snake lake. bought myself some of those method feeders to try out. Well either the lake is massively overstocked and the fish are starving after spawning or I'm just a natural with the method feeder.... I'm guessing the later! Every cast had a fish on within a few minutes and sometimes I hadn't even put the rod on the rest before the line was heading down the lake, I'm knackered! I had to take the bait out just to have a cuppa. Not used to this sort of fishing so found it bloody hard work Lol. Most were weak fighting common carp ranging between 2 - 7lb with a few decent crusians and a big dose of silvers thrown in. One thing I did notice though, most of the fish are beat to hell with ripped fins and their mouths were in a hell of a state. On a commercial water the method can be deadly when they've got there heads down. I use it a lot I do, though I struggled yesterday with one as the fish where up in the water a bit.I either use a method mix or prep some 2mm pellets to use round the method. bullmastiff 615
First time using one so i just did as youtube told me too!! I was using 2nm pellets, soaked for 2mins then drained the water off. I obviously didn't drain it enough as it was really wet and got stuck in the mould so I just squeezed it on by hand. Still worked though. second mix I did a lot better and they stayed in shape. Interestingly though the average size of the fish Went down. Don't know if is was just coincidence or the larger fish prefer ed ground bait style food?

If you make a method mix and pellets try a 50/50 mix with method mix into mould first, I've always found it gets the fish going again.

Should probably put a loop or swivel in there so if a monster snaps you off it won't be towing 20' of line . Snap me off? With my angling skills?
bullmastiff 615
That would be my normal tactics! Either that or a 1/2 inch cube of luncheon meat on a size 6 hook!

Ossie n Arch 1,682
Right. Apologies for the little posting i've done on this topic. but it's be hectic here. Apart from a few trips out on the river after work, we've been snowed under. Our one and only offspring has left home and moved into her first house. They (The retard she's hooked up with and her) signed up to buy a brand new house back in December 2014. After one or two false starts, they finally moved in in early June. Unfortunately, the problems still kept coming, namely the builders fitting the wrong kitchen. This wasn't spotted untill they moved in. So, the whole kitchen had to be changed two weeks after they has settled in. Her BF is usless, as is his Dad, so most of the work that needs doing in a house move as been left to Muggins here to do. There is/are still other things to sort out, but we/they are getting there. As with most fledglings flying the nest, they don't take the nest with them. Same here. Our house is still a complete and utter mess. She has "cherry picked" what she wanted to take, and left us with the rest to sort out. If it was left to me, i'd bin it all. However my missus is a bit oh a hoarder, so we have to "sort" it all out first. If i'm being perfectly honest, I could have done without organising the fishing comp as well. So. A few questions. Do we have a BBQ that someone could bring ?? (We don't have one) Prizes for the match/raffle ?? Are we having an Auction ?? Whisky for the Pound toss ?? Are the BBQ chefs coming and are they bringing Chicken ?? Is everybody on the list still attending ?? I've got one or two bits and bobs, I'm asking my local tackle shop for a prize, but I don't hold much hope out of getting anything too grand. I've got some non-fishing related prizes to give for the match, but would be nice to have angling products for prizes. Finally, how many want tickets for the Saturdays mystery river Dove fishing trip ??

NEWKID 27,210
Hopefully some reality resumes shortly for you Arch! I'll sort some prizes, Kev in the tackle shop has said he wants to donate again so that will be a decent couple of prizes that we normally use for first and second. I'll sort the whiskey out, plus raffle tickets. Hopefully everyone can bring a bit of grub for the BBQ, I'm sure Clive said he was going this year again, so hopefully the chicken will be sorted!! I don't think I'll have room to bring the BBQ as I was bringing the truck, if it's not sorted I'll see what I can do on that. Is that the DOVE, you say??? Count me in plus Robbo is coming up with me and will fish the river too. Don't stress mate, you know once we all get together we'll make it work.
