gnasher16 30,121
Spoke to someone earlier about that poster he said it would be impossible to tell the authenticity without having it in his hand as theres so many things to go on.....everything from the quality of the paper its on to the site logo,s,the ink, exact size....all sorts of shit i got bored in the end and stopped listening ! But he did say the odds on it being an original after 40 years without being in the possession of a collector are virtually nil......reckons in his experience once 10 years have passed only around 10% are originals.....and yours is what 40 odd years old......apparently theres 3 different type of fight posters, the site venue ones which hold the most value......then theres the ones done to advertise a closed circuit tv event which are still valuable but not as much as site venue ones......then theres the reproduction ones which go on ebay and suchlike.......since the age of pay per view tv they dont do the closed circuit tv ones anymore so being the age yours is the best you could hope for is that its a closed circuit tv one but like he said its highly unlikely to be anything other than a reproduction copy im afraid.......hope thats of help mate By the way he did say if it had been an original he,d give anything up to 7/8k.......not to make you feel bad like Edited January 19, 2015 by gnasher16

Greengrass 201
Slightly off topic but I was in a house the other day that had an original (so they said) Woodstock poster, about 5 foot tall and probably 3-4 foot wide what would that be worth ? Plenty I,m thinking if it is original, he added that the frame it was in was some sort of special type to protect the poster.

Ray He was a bit before my time but being an East End icon he,s still talked about today he lives in Jersey now but did well in property and still has places in London and Essex im told theres talks of a film coming out about his life which will be interesting to see as he,s certainly lived a full life....His brother George was a good fighter himself but was better known in business as he was behind the Brent Walker Group who famously went bankrupt in a massive fraud trial in the 90,s which was big news at the time round these parts......For someone who never even won a British title Billy was a massive name and would always draw huge crowds to West Ham baths there was actually 4 brothers who all boxed but Billy was the local darling he had a real all action style and was a bit of a ladies man, liked a night out etc.....The 2 of them fell out over money but apparently made it up a few years before George died which was a couple of years ago ....it will be a good film if it does get made i know theres a book out about the family though ive no idea what its called. AKA-BRINDLE 879
I have an old copy of Billys book here its called..."when the gloves come off"...his brother george was his manager and also got the rules changed so he could work his brothers corner...he invested Billys money in a couple of jacket potatoe shops and built up from there...as Gnasher said he made millions with Brent walker...but him and billy fell out big time over money...good to hear they made up before it was too late...Billy dont come across as that exciting as a boxer to be honest...the book is more about his playboy style life...Terry Downes book "my bleeding business" would make a great film in my opinion...and still our longest living world Champ i belive?...but with some of the crap they make films about these days...one about the walkers would be one i'd watch...just finished Alex Daleys...Fighting men of London book...boxers storys from the 1930's-50's...cracking little book...well worth a read
