How did the repeat mating go for you fatman?

Bitch had 6 pups,3 dogs 3 bitchs but they got that puppy syndrome disease and i lost 5 pups,1 bitch survived 10 months old 23rd january.I was later told i could have had the bitch jabbed against it but i never heard of it until it happened, lesson learned for next time i decide to breed a litter, vet said its actually a sexual transmitted disease that dogs can pass on.

red lamp for minimum of first 3 weeks can cut down massively on losses to puppy fading syndrome the disease doesn't tend to affect dogs above 37 degrees and after 3 weeks old they are strong enough to resist it. Most dogs are unknown carriers of the disease but it still needs certain conditions to thrive, some older terrier man would say pups don't need a lamp they should be hardier without it but prevention is better than cure even if you have to use lamp in summer months, better than a litter been wiped out a small thermometer in kennel isn't a big deal.

Red lamp was on from the time they were born also nice dry draught proff kennel with loads of warm bedding.Bitch knew there was something wrong as each pup got pushed away soon as they started to get ill.I went to vets straight away when i realized something was wrong and he gave me sashes of stuff to give to pups but told me chances of saving them were very poor.Fed them every 2 hours but they just withered away bar 1 bitch pup.A friend has since told me he lost a litter same way but next time around he got the bitch jabbed and no problems so that is the route i will take whenever i decide to breed again.

Thanks for the info fat man and Jiggy.

Does anyone know if this is a fairly new syndrome or did it occur in the past as well?

It seems to be something that is affecting more and more litters?

Thanks

i had a we fox only border bitch that her whole liter was wiped out with it too, didn't know til it was too latee, never bred her after that Edited by Lenmcharristar
