Working Age Of Your Running Dogs

Just want people's opinions on what age your running dogs start to slow up as such or you notice there not as sharp as they was . My dog is is his 6/ 7 season but just just starting to notice him slowin up slightly . What your experiences ? Atb

My old bitch started to slow up around 7 , but she made up for lack of pace etc with her brains and experience. Was still as keen as you like a week before put down at 13. The only thing was her body wasn't as keen as her heart was lol

He's saluki greyhound I've got im as fit as I can and he's running well but just starting to see a slight difference in him the last few times out hopefully will get another good season out of him Atb

My wheaten grey Lily still lamping well at 8 but started slowing up at 6 to 7, she does pick her runs at the end of the night though but after all the seasons shes given 100% I can put up with that.

Had a good bull wheaten hound dog,this season he was 7 and started to miss too many foxes,he was trying hard but was always worked hard and had a few old injuries especially a shoulder one and he lost a lot of speed and turning.

that's it mate , any old injuries start show through as they get older, I think about 7 a dog stars to slow a bit, that prob the time to bring a pup on or earlier 6 year old

Thats what I was plannin to do was gonna get this season out the way then get a pup in the summer to start and he'll help bring the pup on . Giving him a few spins tonight hopefully there be no divs driving the fields again . Atb

Ah ya sure I have two other lurchers,one is four and one is two and the beagles so im not too badly off.

One of mine is ten now, she picks her runs but the heart is still there as a young un she very rarely missed now ferreting she is still the best dog of the pack great nose always in the right place for bolters theirs no substitute for experience, and she probably catches more than the rest of them, sad when you see a dog in decline, but that little bitch has a special place in my heart and when the time comes she will lay in front of the fire and dream of the glory days. That dog has done me proud and i hope for many more days out with her.YIS KIC.
