rodp 316
I had a 3ltr td auto, pulled like a train, drank fuel like it was going out of fashion . nice to drive if you get used to the peculiar driving position (high floor, low roof, legs straight out) It all worked (most of it) The known fault killed it in the end. The rad has an oil cooler in it that blocks the water outlet, so when you pull HARD uphill it over heats (Heads of the valleys with trailer). This did it one too many times and I refused to stop. (just in traffic with no trailer) It died. Would I have another ........ No. parts are too expensive and used are hard to find, you're just waiting for a major disaster to happen. can't drive far in a Defender now (knees) so got a disco, parts are cheap and easy to fit. If I blow the engine (300 tdi) a couple hundred buys another. Does 24mpg knocking about, the surf did 16. The back door on the surf was a pain as well, lower the window then drop the tailgate, ok when the suns out, pain in the rain.

rodp 316
If you're looking for (relatively) cheap to buy, cheap to run, cheap spares, easy to work on and all garages can fix them it doesn't leave a lot of choice. There's a reason so many folk slag disco's, there's millions of them about. You have a lot of motors ...... you get a lot of horror stories. You have a few motors .............. you get a few horror stories. Simples!!!

stevemac 434
Ive owned 2 hilux extra cab utes utes a 2.7 petrol and a 3 litre diesel the 2.7 was a brilliant vehicle walk all over anything britan could put in front of it the 3 litre Diesel was disappointing no where near the power and economy wasn't very crash hot. The full size Nissan I own now leaves them both for dead just a class better again.
