Not tried Bethel Rhodes and no prices on their web site. Getting down the Talpex as well and they are £82 for ten from flat pack. Which are the best value? Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
I guess the answer comes down to your definition of the word value? Quote Link to post

mole trapper 1,693
Hmmm, that's interesting about br! I'll give them a bell on Monday, they usually send me down two boxes "50" at a time, must be a new thing. Quote Link to post
OldTrapCollector 377
M T - how do the Bethel Rhodes traps compare to say, Flat Pack? Are they different, cheaper, more durable? Quote Link to post
Phil Lloyd 10,738
I have used most of the contemporary Duffus style traps,...for me,..Bethel Rhodes are my prefered choice. I do believe that their major UK distributor is Killgerm Chemicals from Ossett... I was extremely fortunate, in purchasing a quantity of brand new traps, off a Pester, heading for pastures new,.across the Irish Sea.... He had a van full and at £2.00 a pop,...I should have taken the lot..... I was a wee bit slow on that particular deal.... . Quote Link to post
nod 285
i use flat pack, i do have some bethal rhodes but i dont think they are as strong as fp, i still catch with them but would always use fp first then br 1 Quote Link to post
Matt 160
I have a couple of hundred BR traps and used to sell a few. Sadly, the quality of the trap declined, and despite the fact that I had a fairly good relationship with them, they refused to accept that their traps were becoming inferior to other brands on the market. When you look at an original JN Duffus trap and compare it to the modern equivalent (regardless of where in the world it has been made) you can see that the design has changed to ease manufacture rather than improve the trap. For me now, there is only one trap that I would (reluctantly) fork out cash for; and that's the Flat Pack version, despite the fact that it's a copy of a copy of an inferior version of the original masterpiece Quote Link to post
Dirksdonuts 79
Flat pack Stainless Ultimate for me as they are so strong and look new after each use. I reckon the springs may weaken after time though which is natural. I wonder if they would consider putting new springs on them if a customer wanted? Quote Link to post

It's only new customers there not supplying t due to there new deal with kilgerm, existing punters are not effected Quote Link to post
mole trapper 1,693
At one time "around ten years ago" I was a staunch supporter of br traps, flat pack at that time were utter shite, rusting after first set but felt good in the hand, they refused to accept they were crap, so I stuck with br, anyway, about seven years ago flat pack sent me some to trial and they had sorted the rust issues and were cheaper than br. Now move on to two years ago and I can't remember why but I bought a hundred from br and they were totally different traps to previous ones, ie these were weaker springs, rough edges and generally very poor, br refused point blank that these had been out sourced, also stated that no change had been made in production process, we'll I'm not that daft so when last winter we bought fifty to replace ones mown, knicked by badger s etc they came from fp and shall for the forceiable future. Much the same as me J Rough edges, weak springs, softer wire used for trigger loops... I spoke to the works manager about it, and he assured me they've been making them the same way for years, and saw no reason to change Now don't get me wrong; I didn't buy as many traps as Killgerm; but I did buy in excess of 1000 traps a year, and I thought they may just humour me, but no, they really weren't interested.... So when the time comes, and I have to 'top up' my current stock, I don't quite know where I'll go; but I suspect that given the fact that Flat Pack have sorted their 'finish' issues out, they may well get my 'hard earned' Quote Link to post
comanche 3,027
I've been using Albi-traps for the last few years as my local farm shop stocked them at a reasonable price and I was able to have a good hands-on play with them before buying. They all seemed to be have assembled on a Friday afternoon and required a bit of bending and tweaking but the springs have proved to be good and after a bit of bending, trimming the traps have stood the test of time. When my local supplier started selling a different manufacturer's product that didn't feel right to me I managed to buy some traps direct from Albi at a very good price. They still all needed attacking with pliers before use but I have confidence in them which perhaps is half a good reason for choosing one make over another .
