Your Views On Pup Growling At People Approaching

My old lurcher used to do it if anyone she didn't know went near me or the misses. Also used to do it to people in hoodies or Muslim vails.

 

Don't know if she would have bit anyone never gave her the chance

The barking/growling when people approach the car has been happening from the 1st time someone approached the car when he was sat on my sons lap. The growling when people have approached has happened twice in the last 3 days wouldn't want him to bite anyone, unless they tried to attack me or my family. None of my past mutts not lurchers have done this. Good to hear peoples views on this matter.

My pup does it

 

Used to have a exceptionally racist dog that was rescued by the ex. This thing would attack anybody wearing a hood, helmet, veil etc but also anyone that wasn't white.

My pup does it.i put it down to beimg a little nervous of new situations.hes ok after 10 minutes or so.just get it out in as many new situations as possible without any stress

Nothing wrong with dog Imo, he was more than likely trying to tell you something, didnt like the bloke and he showed it. Big bag of toilet roll is something different thats made him unsure, protecting car is normal. Showing an instant dislike to someone for no apparent reason and id be inclined to think the bloke were dodgy and dog knew it. Bit of advice for anyone on here, any strangers start showing alot of intrest in your dog asking questions and wanting to come round see him, best thing you can do is tell them to feck off or tell them some bull shit, dogs shit, terminal illness, infertile, anything. Do not big your dog up or tell them feck all as you could very well end up losing that dog, atb

Dogs can pick up on things we don't. My sister was walking our spaniel one day,one of the softest bitches you can imagine. Guy stopped in a car and spoke to her-dog went ballistic. Only time she ever did it-obviously sensed something and he fecked off sharpish.

Agree. If you have a good bond, have faith in your dog. You should be "listening" too him/her as much as they do you. I remember when i was a kid, round at me mates house. Was sat in living room with him and his mum and family dog. His dad came back from pub with some bloke. Now this dog id never heard make a sound ever but when this bloke sat down the dog started growling big time and my mates mum just said to bloke "think you better leave" and he did. Dad said "what you said thatfo r and she replied" that cnuts dodgy and dog knows it"

I don't know much about any thing but with my pup if I see a habit forming I just think can I put up with this for the next 10 years because what might seem good at the time can wear thin some times. If your in a crowded spot you don't want to be worrying about your dog taking a chunk out of some one.

Our cocker picked up loads of bad habits in the house for example you can't say the word bath with out him belting up the stairs yapping his head off because he all ways went up with the wife and she gave him a bottle to mess with

Just make sure he loves every one who lives in your house and who comes round regularly maybe except the mother in law

Mine was quite bad for it when he was younger while walking down the street, never kids or groups just people on their own. Sometimes it lead to barking at them when they startled him getting out of cars or out of driveways etc.

He's protective of the house and my family especially when I'm not there and I'm pretty sure he would bite an unwelcome intruder which to me isn't a bad thing. He won't be getting pinched in a hurry anyway.
