My mates whippet had what appeared to be a bramble scratch on the inside of his back leg, no bigger than his pinky nail. By tea time it was slightly bigger and the next morning it covered most of the inside of his leg, he was trying to keep it clean and the skin was just coming away in his hand so it was off to the vet, turns out he'd picked up a flesh eating bug and was extremely lucky to have caught it in time and extremely unlucky to have picked it up, does anyone know how common is this? As I've only saw it once before a few years back again it was a whippet (coincidence?) again a back leg (coincidence?) but this one wasn't so lucky and had to have the leg removed.

The little fella has been in the vet for a few days, lost 2kg, not eating & has kidney failure, 50/50 chance of survival, vet reckons that it's been an underlying kidney issue since birth and that the anaesthetic triggered something.
