My father in law has just got some rescue lovebirds which are in small cages at the moment and he's wanting to put them together in a bigger cage. Anyone else keep these and is it a good/bad idea to mix them up? There's 2 pairs in their own cages and 1 on its own.

they do pair for life mate id keep them seperated

We had six big aviary when I was a kid and one was solely for love birds more nest boxes than pairs ,good strong wire doubled as they chew the frame to bits and plenty of branches to strip.they strip the willow carry it to there boxes in there rump area .

That's also how your ment to be able to sex them,give them a few small willow sticks and it's the cocks that will tuck them in their rumps to carry them to the nest site,not my thing and that's all i know about them sorry :icon_redface::D .

Me to mate ,I don't know much about them where talking twenty year ago we had them , like dido said probably worked because we had about twenty or so together . I'm not saying that's how it should be done but that's how we had them

my mother kept them for years very hardy little birds and easy breeders .but they will chew your flight to bits if the wood isnt protected .she kept a few different varieties and budgies all together with no problems at all .
