leethedog 3,071
Even if the kid did run at the dog the dog is in the wrong at 20 weeks the dog should know it's place in the order of the house at the bottom Quote Link to post

slipper 116
Thanks for all the replies folks, been getting the girls to feed the dog and then take the bowl away whilst I carefully watch and its been fine, I took her bone off her no problems The dog was about 15 weeks old when i picked her up so hadn't had the chance to spend those first few weeks with kids and people etc She will be outside soon I was just waiting for her jabs and wanted a few weeks to get to know the dog and bond with it before she goes out with my spaniel Thanks again Quote Link to post
Silversnake 1,099
Good luck slipper, good to hear you seem to have it sorted. As soon as I get a pup I get my kids to take their food off them and give it back numerous times, I have seen some pups growl and a sharp rebuke and maybe pinning them down and making them submit and the dog has learnt after the first time. I get the kids to take their food several more times over the next weeks/months just to make sure they have learnt and I have never had any problems. In saying that if the dog did not learn or displayed this behavior as an adult I would not in any way risk my children. 16 weeks is still a baby especially you only had it for 1 week and you made some silly mistakes (food, child, unattended) I hope you learn and enjoy this dog and many more in future. slip lead 862
One thing I always drummed into my kids,if the dog retreats, to, or is in his bed they must be left alone. 1 Quote Link to post
