RossM 8,121
I got a text from my cousin last night asking me if I knew someone after a lurcher after asking why they wanting rid i found out a few things that can hopefully be rectified, Firstly she's around 6.5 and litter sister to my white bitch although she's smaller built than her. His issues are excessive moulting (don't know if it's an exaggeration but he says he strokes her back and literally has a handful of Hair but she isn't going bald) and she can't hold her bladder, says that she can be a like a normal house dog for months then she can piss in the house every day for a week. His missus is livid 1. Because of all the hair floating around and 2. In week she's peed on the spare room carpet n the morning (last pee at 11 and this was around half 5 in the morning. Then she peed in the dog bed when they were out (4hrs max) and then whilst lying on the bed in spare room whilst someone there she just pissed whilst lying there made no effort to get up or show signs of needing toilet. They are at the wits end and I've suggested going to vets which he is a bit iffy coz they don't have insurance but he is going to get it looked at. I just thought I'd ask on here first see if anyone has any ideas before his wife leaves him or the dog gets put to a kennel home or pts. May I add this is more a pet doesn't really get worked. As far as I'm aware it gets a mixer with mince in its diet and only gets water in its feed. Thanks in advance. Ross
walshie 2,804
Has she been spayed? The only reason I ask is I had a ridgeback bitch spayed once and those symptoms sound identical. Turned out to be a hormone imbalance and although I can't remember the name of the stuff, it involved a couple of drops of this liquid on her food every day and it went away. skycat 6,173
Owners who won't take an obviously sick dog to the vet don't deserve to have one. I know vets are expensive, but we owe it to our dogs to see them right, and this dog obviously has a problem, quite possibly hormonal as suggested. Or could be diet related, or even stress related: could be a lot of things, but not doing anything about it is tantamount to criminal. Poor dog.

greyhoundstud 38
It may be be Cushings disease .It is diagnosed by a series of tests and yes it is usually treatable
sandymere 8,263
Is the peeing around the time of her season? The shedding is a lot about perception, if she's not going bald then she can't be shedding that badly so a good brush daily to get the loose hair out in the garden rather than the house might help but dog hairs are part of owning a dog.
