Rabbiting man 1,192
Anyone know where I can buy end pins from, the ones with the round eye, not that square eye you get from Bridport nets. Them thing are shit. Quote Link to post
Mr Wilkes 3,078
Get some stainless ones from Nelson, well worth the money. Quote Link to post
Tiercel 6,986
Get some stainless ones from Nelson, well worth the money. Personally I do not like stainless for end pins, I know they look good and will last forever, but give me good old mild steel ones every time, preferably rusty ones. The reason being that the stainless point on the pins is too slippery to grip the net when it's hanked on it, one lapse in concentration and the whole net is on the floor, as I found to my cost as the first ones I made were from stainless. My preferred metal of choice now is 6mm black mild steel left to go rusty then rubbed down with fine wire wool, it leaves just enough roughness for the net to grip on the end pins and stop it sliding. Mr Wilkes 3,078
Lol, I've done that with mild steel Alan (when I was learning the game) I soon learnt by my mistake. I've only had the stainless a few months and the way the net flows off the pin (smooth) ...well imo you just can't beat it. 1 Quote Link to post

Sorry Mr Wilkes have to agree with tiercel on this one mild steel all the way WHY the ting when stainless steel touches the other pin can be heard like the church clock chiming. Tiercel try leaving the 6mm submersed in vinegar over night Y.I.S Leeview TC Quote Link to post
Tiercel 6,986
First off, there is nothing what so ever wrong with stainless end pins, they are just not for me. No matter what your sport the longer you do it the more refined to your own personal tastes your kit becomes. It's like a dart player preferring one set of flights to another, they both do the same job, he just likes the ones he uses. As much as he can tell you why he likes them, so can the chap who prefers the other type. It is personal choice, what suits you. But the only way to find that out is to try other items of kit to find out if they suit you better. TC Quote Link to post
Leeview 791
it is a personal choice,I was given some very nice looking SS end pins to try and just could nt get on with the noise they made so passed them on and went back to mild steel Y.I.S Leeview 1 Quote Link to post

Unless we try different things we would still be using flint for knives. TC Quote Link to post

NELS0N 457
ive stainless, mild steel, aluminium pins, even some old bits of wooden pegs that been put to use as a set of pins. personally i like the stainless, flows off the pins nice and smooth and should last a life time. ive got some brass and copper bar somewhere that will be getting turned into pins, why?? because i can and im not going to waste it. 2 Quote Link to post

Thats the point I am trying to make,if it suits you, use it, no matter what it is made of. Just because stainless does not suit me does not make it bad for end pins. No more than my rusty black mild end pins will suit anyone else. I just stated what suits me thats all. TC 1 Quote Link to post
