FPO 0
Genuine qeustion, not a dig!!! Why would you want to clip a chickens wings?? They can't fly Tell that to the first load I got when they managed to fly the fence and get into the freshly dug and planted veggie plot! They dont fly as such but like scottish lass said they manage to propel themselves a fair hieght just enough to clear a 4 foot fence! bird table must be a bit higher than that again and didnt honestly think they would have noticed it or realised what it was! Was I wrong or what. SL Only clipped one wing as I was told that it works best and keeps them off balanace so they just fly in circles! DS used to have loads of LS along with marans and other When we had to move last year all 50 of them were sold as we thought we were going NFA maybe, anyway once we found somewhere we aquired these free of charge from someone who said they werent laying, Amazing what layers pellets do! egg a day from all three, Lovely jubbly. They have about an acre of ground to wander around and still they wander over to the farmers wife next door to see what she will give them! Then take a slow wander back via main road blackberry picking all the way Could keep them in a small run, but they obviously like a look around and cant blame them! Nell 1
Sorry guys, when I said fly I meant actually flying, like any other bird. Its just that when someone mentions getting a birds wings clipped, I think of parrots and the like, the birds that you dont want to literally fly away. I just honestly never heard of chicken getting their wings clipped before, that all I know all too well about them jumping with the aid of their wings, I used to have 15 chickens before i moved house (I had the room), Blue laced Wyandotte's and Black Rocks and they could also jump onto a 4ft fence, I also had one that used to scale the side of my 7ft dog pen, "walking" up the side of the mesh whilst flapping to keep balance BluuBunnie - When chasing them, they might become airborn for a number of seconds, but I personally wouldn't call it flying, JMO
