Irishhunter14 89
Just bought a freelander diesel, I'm new to 4wds, are they permanent or selectable, Ive been told it's selevtable but read it permanent, there's a yellow button on gear stick thought that may have something to do with it, be grateful for any advise
jangles 24
Mk1 Freelanders are full time 4WD .... the 'yellow' button on the gear lever is for off-road hill descent (the cars electronics control and apply the ABS braking system) Jangles
Irishhunter14 89
Ah right, do you have to hold the button in or does one press of it do the job, I'm new to the 4wd scene
jangles 24
It can be 'kicked in' on the move at slow speeds...... just press the button and it will show as a green light on your dashboard. Go out and try it on a steep slope. To disable it press the button again and it will dis-engage after you reach 15mph. Jangles

Gaj1612 99
If I were you mate I'd have a good read about them. Join up on landyzone there's loads of info on there. They do seem to be plagued with problems. Have a good read up on the 4 wheel drive system as even running different tire pressures can cause problems. Atb

socks 32,253
Should a freelander even be in the 4x4 section ??? .......
Gaj1612 99
They are constant 4 wheel drive. They are fitted with a viscous coupling unit which puts drive to the rear wheels when the fronts start to slip. But there is a percentage of the drive to the rear constantly. Can't remember how it's split though. The traction control does help alot when off roading and they are quite capable. Only let down really is ground clearance. Obviously not as good as something like a disco or defender but decent enough
