diggory 130
Not worth the risk for a few rats Quote Link to post
frazdog 252
Never lad aint worth it, atb Quote Link to post
shaneg 2,578
I'd never work a bitch in pup even if she was only a week in pup. It wouldn't be worth it if anything was to happen. Quote Link to post
WEDGEY 755
Why would anyone even think about working a bitch in pup ? Have you no other dogs what happens if the bitch takes sick you can't give it any meds ?well your not suppose to Quote Link to post
bull mcabe 595
Chances are youve put alot of time effort and thought into lining your bitch so i wudnt risk working her. Alot of work can be undone in a blink of an eye in the hunting game. Quote Link to post
Waz 4,266
Ive done it. But wouldnt do it again, if the bitch got cut bad and needed meds/antibiotics or whatever etc how would it affect the pups? Plus weils disease in the rats - pups might carries some immunites from the bitch but lots of different straoins of weils... Quote Link to post
rob284 1,682
I know someone who bought a bitch, took it out to try it, worked a treat to a fox on a decent dig. Day after gave birth! The bitch had no visible signs before hand but became milky overnight. Quote Link to post
wirral countryman 2,110
I have bred terriers all my life and have always worked them right up to whelping without issue,it keeps them fit and healthy but never around rats deliberately, bushing and general mouching is fine, shooting, etc, stay away from rats would be my advice, WM 1 Quote Link to post
Cleanspade 3,324
i agree with the last post. a bitch needs to be kept fit and well. and getting out and about does just that. i wouldnt work them to ground deliberately or go looking for rats but i get them out untill they show signs of slowing down. then its on the lead. each to there own though 1 Quote Link to post
frazdog 252
Each to there own, but I think its silly to work a bitch when in pup, theres safer ways to keep the fit, jmo 1 Quote Link to post
fat man 4,741
I reckon its no does a bitch no harm to have a run about or to be walked while pregnant and being fit will leave them in a healthier position for when the time comes to whelp, but rats would be a no no and as for working to ground not a chance. 1 Quote Link to post
morton 5,368
Ill work them above ground if they are comfortable to do it,ive never had a problem associated with a terrier and ratting,in whelp or not.If the dogs fit enough to accompany me its out with the rest,up until 8 weeks then i leave them at home, even at 8 weeks they are usually screaming to go.I don,t hold with the safety issues some mention,we can take every precaution and still get bitten on the arse, its knowing the bitch and making sure she,s comfortable in her work.
