fabiomilitello 37
I'm looking to get my first gun dog at the end of the month - a working lab. I'm thinking about raw feeding it, as I've got family members who do the same with their dogs and it works wonders for them. However, none of them are gun dogs. Does anyone here raw feed their gun dogs? Quote Link to post

BIGLURKS 874
I've seen a few that have fed raw one of my own as well the only thing I can say my own dog retrieved shot and cold birds but he was started on raw as a pup and was fine with birds I never had any issues but a friend that switched he's dog after 3 years from biscuit too raw had devastating effects the after half a season the dog had tendencies too pick up birds and mangle them and half eat them and just leave them he even tried everything you could think off not heard how he got on this season though but I do know another mate that had a 6 year old or 8 not sure of the age but he has had good effects dogs not changed at all just my knowledge of them some opinions may differ Quote Link to post
socks 32,253
Why would feeding a raw diet make the dog suddenly start behaving differently ... Doesn't make any sense ..... Quote Link to post
stroller 341
I feed raw with no issues other than well muscled dogs with great tartar free teeth 1 Quote Link to post

fabiomilitello 37
That's what my concern was, if the pup was raw fed, would it start to chew up and mangle the game it retrieves? Quote Link to post
BIGLURKS 874
Like I did say my pup I had was fine never had a problem retrieved shot and cold birds never a feather out of place but he was brought up on raw so he never knew any different I would add I've known dogs that have been fed biscuits that mangle pheasants Quote Link to post
socks 32,253
Feeding raw WILL NOT make the dog chew its game up ....... 3 Quote Link to post

I've used her a lot for picking up and I put this down not to here diet, she's eaten dry and raw but that I've sent her for to many runners and she she likes to make sure they are dead. Diet has nothing to do with it as far as I'm concerned. I could easily sort her but she's more of a pet now and I prefer to work cockers. 1 Quote Link to post
