pianoman 3,587
Weihrauch spring rifles have been my first love in air rifles for many years now. They definitely benefit from a good fettle, polish and tune up. Great kit made better is no bad thing! 2 Quote Link to post

We did bud we did,but even a run in springer shoots better once fettle,d . But the way rifles are mass produced now,er days some need to be tune,d and polished ,even if its just to get the factory grease out and a better grease put in unfortunately :cray: atvbmac 1 Quote Link to post

You no Simon we spend a small fortune on top class rifles like weihrauch and its a little bit of a let down that there not as good out of the box as they used to be back in the days . Iv had 97,s that have needed more than a tune and polish and they have been new. Like the synthetic stock one i had if you can remember i had to ask you about the trigger as it was like trying to pull a bit of steel apart with one finger and the stock was like a air fix model with bits o plastic sticking off it and a few of the stock screws were covered in rust and right from the off it twanged to the point that at the range our good friend Marksman took it off me and fettle,d her there and then and when i finished at the end of the day he took it home and did it properly . Unfortunately a bad one slips through the net but when he had finished with her she was so sweet to shoot just a pity i could not get on with the thumb hole stock . And quite a few are getting through the net now there quality controller needs to go to spec savers ether that or he needs to pull his thumb out of his ass . But me like your good self still love them and theres no taking away the fact that there a top class rifle and even if they were sent out the way they used to be I WOULD STILL TUNE AND POLISH THEM just cant help my self lol atvbmac  3 Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Before this polishing lark became the normal thing didn't we just used to run a springer in? We did 'Wasted. But that was back a goodly number of years when a rifle came off the assembly line to meet a demanding inspection and test-shoot before being passed-out as fit for purpose and sale. A good run-in with a tinful of pellets was all that was needed to get it shooting sweetly. There have been a number of issues raised with Weihrauch over the last 5 years or more, particularly when it comes to the finish of their mainsprings. They've been found to be badly cut off and left in a poor unfinished state. Others have found all kinds of cheap lubes and gunk inside their guns as well as duff springs. All of which points to too much haste to save money on production time and "churn out" the products in the mistaken belief this will solve their financial woes. It is a move that has, unsurprisingly, come back and bit them with poor sales as customers have turned away to buy PCPs or seek out other alternatives. But the general standard of HW's spring rifle construction and main parts are excellent and a new mainspring (I use Titan springs in my HW97K and FAC HW80) and a polish, or a complete tuning kit are a small headache compared to the rewards you get in return with a well=sorted Weihrauch spring rifle. The second-hand trade for older Weihrauch air rifles has seen an upturn in demand; where you can find a well-made and finished rifle that will benefit from a refurb and tune up; and still have change left over against the cost of a new gun. I've seen real rust-buckets be turned back into superbly accurate, sweet shooting guns to be treasured, by those among us who know what they are doing when it comes to refurbishing an old, mis-used, rusted-up but superbly well made Weihrauch spring rifle. So if an old HW spring gun can withstand years of neglect and still be made to look and shoot as sweet as a new pin, imagine what a bit of TLC will do for a new one!! That's why I love em!
