Red kites are normally carrion eaters... and doubt theyd take a pigeon unless it was roosting or on the ground

Used to see quite a few circling over the Tyne near Ryton, from the breed and release programme from a few years ago, but then they seemed to disappear, but only two days ago I saw four circling above the fields near Throckley, on the other side of the river. Good to see them back.

It's illegal for a farmer to leave fallen stock on the land any more and I'm out on the land 7 days a week and don't see as much as a dead rabbit.

Yet, all these protected birds of prey that the Wildlife departments are churning out seem to always look healthy and well fed.

Pity all the leverat's and wild pheasant poults we used to see aren't as healthy.

Red kite hasn't done that, red kits are not very fast and have small feet too, pigeons would be hard to catch with small feet as their feather just drop out. Sparrowhawks mainly catch them by ambushing them because of this reason. As has already been said I doubt it's a Sparrowhawk aswell due to where it's been plucked
