hare_n_hounds 157
There's an advert in the countrymans for 'genuine Smithfield lurchers'. Does anyone own/work one if so how do they hold up? Also what are they made up of? And does anyone know how much he charges?! As some of you may have seen I'm looking to get a pup, I've one in mind but nothing is concrete so I'm still looking. Thanks Quote Link to post
Maximus Ferret 2,063
No one owns and works one. There's no such thing. The smithfield collie died out years ago. 3 Quote Link to post
hare_n_hounds 157
So what are those advertised? Could just be diluted to f *ck like merlin and eve type lines?? Quote Link to post
Maximus Ferret 2,063
I've been told he had some good dogs in the 70's, back when he used to work them. These days they seem to cross allsorts into them. Even in the 70's it's doubtful that much of "drovers dogs" remained in them. The line might well still throw a few good ones but Geoff seems a perfect example of what can happen if you start believing your own bullshit. You could always ring him up for a chat and make your own mind up. 3 Quote Link to post

Flipper_Al 1,012
For a bit history lookup the Weyhill Fair and have a look, at some of the drovers dogs on there..... Quote Link to post

hare_n_hounds 157
They look handy tools don't they . Good size shape n jacket on them Quote Link to post
Maximus Ferret 2,063
Those were back in the 70's but there's really no reason to believe they were from a "genuine smithfield" either in my opinion. 10 Quote Link to post

Greygamefowl 160
When you look one the website for them they don't seem to breed to a stamp, and I was told years ago when I enquired about them I was told that the main man could trace their history back about 200 yrs Quote Link to post
