First Crosses..

Recommended Posts

What's your thoughts on first crosses I.e collie grey deerhound grey or what ever for lamping. I don't know why but when I think of a first cross I think of them as being quite heavy, not saying this is the case just that's how I think of them. Never had one so that's why I'm asking how they do on the lamp on r&f. Cheers

Never seen first x collie grey seen a 3/4 bred one couple of times was a flying machine for about 1 minute she struggled to hang on if the run got too long she was only a small light framed bitch heard collie can throw a bit more stamina in them though atb what ever you decide

Seen a first cross saluki greyhound that a good mate had very fast was great on the lamp had a nack for catching them she wasn't to bad in the day either she was coming into her own and sadly she got run over... Atb mate

shame that, not seen one run but ,but think you get good dog from this x. regards 1x colliexgreys ,suppose it depends on what pup throw to , the collie or the grey.? ive been lucky with Bryn as 1x goes , as he is fast+ agile for this x , some can be heavy set. where as Bryn quite racy built he 25in 60lb which is not that big I don't think. that's the prob with 1x of any lurcher bull collie, sal, gsd etc. you just don't know who the pups will follow , a 2nd 3rd gen 1x might be better as you could get more racy +agile type lurcher ..!

I,v always gone for a 3/4 running dog if i was after a lurcher, i have a 3/4 whippet 1/4 beddy at the mo, always found excess speed to be an advantage were i work my dogs, if i lived elsware and worked in a different way then it might not matter so much, some lads like 1/2 crosses and favor brain etc over speed, each to their own, i,v had 1/2 crosses but only when both have been sight hounds. Northernlite mentions collie whippet grey, now that would do the job, but i wouldnt want more than 3/8s collie myself, iam stuck in my ways i suppose. PS, iam presuming your not lamping anything too big.
