I was in the same position as you, and I did contemplate the GC500, but I could not justify the extra £40/£50. Yes I agree, the remote is a nice to have, but do you really need to see the name of every sound that you have on the unit? When would you ever need to see the name of every sound that you have on the unit when you are out in the field? I might use a handful of calls when I'm out for fox. I can drop those on to the first set of button presses before I leave home. Just my opinion of course. I'll update you as soon as I can. Quote Link to post

Tremo 138 Posted January 6, 2015 Report Share Posted January 6, 2015 The GC350 arrived today. First impressions ........ It looks and feels well built. I loaded up the unit with the batteries (4 x AA) and tried out the supplied calls. The volume range is good and it certainly packs a punch (15W). The majority of the calls are aimed for the US market as I knew (coyotes etc.), but there are a good few that can be used here in 'Ole Blighty. I had a number of my own calls to hand so I thought I would try them out also. Transferring them to the SD card in the unit was painless, and after a bit of file renumbering (the unit recognises calls files in the range "001 ..." to "024 ...") I was soon playing my own calls. I like the use of the SD card. This allows you to have individual cards configured for specific purposes. With this in mind I see no reason why you should need to have a unit that is capable of holding and playing 200 calls (the GC500). Only my opinion of course. Weather permitting I will give the unit a field test towards the end of the week and let you know my final thoughts. Quote Link to post

What I would do is get a new SD card, copy across any useful calls from the standard card, then put the standard SD card back in the box. That way you have the standard card as it's supplied should you ever want to sell it, and on your own card, you can then put whatever you want, supplied calls or calls otherwise obtained. Hope it does well in the field. Kind regards Dan No it isn't the way to go it's just an excuse not to buy the best avaliable. Do it right do it once. If you have a caller that holds 200 calls and you can scroll through them in the field to play something different because what you normally use isn't working it is a big advantage that can mean the difference between a succesfull outing or going home empty handed. This has happened numerous times to me, something obscure like squirrel distress, chicken or mallard duckling have worked when all the rest have failed. My advise would be don't limit your options by saving a few quid now. It's hard enough getting on terms with some foxes without having to faff about changing sd cards etc. If your serious about your sport use serious kit don't make do and mend. But at the end of the day it's your money your choice. 2 Quote Link to post

ianm 2,594 Posted January 7, 2015 Report Share Posted January 7, 2015 Because it only holds 24 calls at a time and they have a remote with numbered buttons on it rather than a screen that shows the calls by name. For example on the gc350 number 1 may be fox squalls so you have to remember that. on the gc500 number 1 may be fox squalls but you can see that on the screen no need to remember what number it is. The gc500 will hold 200 calls the same as the decent foxpros so all you need do is scroll through a screen and press select to change the call required. Whereas on the gc350 the call you require may be on another sd card in your pocket, at home wherever, plus you will have to remember what number every call you have on every sd card. If you only plan on using 24 calls and can remember the numbers for them fine, but to me for £40 difference i would have the best they do. Quote Link to post
