1/2 beardie

Couple of pictures of mine taken this morning...bitch about 15 months. Probably about 1/4 collie and I'd expect getting on for about 1/2 grey (cg x 'lurcher').

5/8 3/8 dog about 12 month in the picture.

COLLIE XS ARE WHAT THEY ARE nothing more nothing less , seen some verry usefull ones .But i canassure thee they can be made in ta far more versatile types with the bintroduction of sal blood , i ran the islands 30 plus yrs back and this type excelled betta than most other types, they can be capable of lasrge numbers of conies on a regular basis, its no new thing that the bull x greys and coursing types are becoming popular, thee been about donkeys yrs and lots in staffs , and i would say either bull or the collie sal types bred right can be made in ta very good animals ,they learn to run the land small or large , aye some take a wee bit longer than most conventional types but the wait his usuall y worth it to think that the base types cana be upgraded his foolish the coursing stock of these here islands were be got from sensible breeding with lurchers and sals, rear like a lurcher one may be pleasantly surprised. atb bunnys.

yes mate, 15 year Beardie x's 32 year collie x's all together.

what attracted you to the beardies mate, and what type of hunting do they suit - it might be a stereotype but ive always thought of them as more independent than the border x , hunting further ahead ? also harder headed and probably would have been better suited to the fox job in days gone by ? any truth in that?

if it is this dog it carries alot more border in it than beardie , there would be less than a 1/8 beardie ..

beardie was always my favorite of the collies the right working beardies but as a lurcher do you need a big furry coat , up on the hill its handy but for chaseing on open arable feilds they used to blow up on a course ,if warm , and if you were not careful it could lead to consequencies ,the furry bears hanckock used to breed were as much good as a chocalate fire gaurd if not cliipped out and fit on a warm nite sep oct ,but in the dead of winter snow up the hills they were hardy dogs and never lossed much condition ,ferreting 2 or 3 days a week in all weathers ,but in a whole you dont need a big furry jacket just a good dense coat like a lab or greyhound ,

any way never had a favorite cross its what puts the game in the bag and doesnt jack or blow up on a strong winter qaurry

I had a beardie/border lurcher quite some years back from hancock. He was a first cross male and was quite tall with it. Compared to my straight border cross he would range much further working more independently, he was one of the best hunting up dogs I've owned. Scared me how committed he was when chasing something, I often closed my eyes, but I can never once remember him ending up at the vets. He's even been tangled up in barb wire and caught on it before but with hardly any serious damage to his skin.

I only ever hunted rabbits and hares, I've never been bothered about foxes, but my god could he find them, think this was his real passion. With other dogs he was a coward and would run/ avoid confrontation, but by Christ he would sort a fox out no problem.

I didn't realise how good he was at the time. He had a cracking temperament and was the most laid back lurcher I have ever owned. I often wonder why beardie isn't used more often in rabbiting/ mooching dogs because to me at it has a lot more qualities than bedlingtons. Or maybe I just got lucky.
