storm323 191
I enjoy the collie cross ! A very enjoyable partner in crime out in the field (don't mean anything illegal ) ! These are a few pictures of my dogs two I have now and two that have past on to a better hunting life! Only good thing about modern Technology is have the camera phones! Got hundreds of my now present dogs but very little of my previous hounds where I don't have a camera to hand quite so easy! Out for a look on the lamp this evening weather has be good to us this winter ! Speak like I'm an oldie only 24 haha happy hunting! 2 Quote Link to post
redial 81
Well in these restricted days a Collie x Grey would be ideal for me. Having said that in days gone by it was still pretty good. Quote Link to post

Dewclaw69 484
Highly strung, if he doesn't get run hard he pesters , stares, whines. If we stop mid mooch for more than 30 seconds he whines or starts playing. He's sensitive but bold so pushes his luck regularly and I'm left with sulking dog. Becomes dog aggressive needlessly even though he's been well socialised, he's pissed on my leg whilst I'm talking to the next door neighbour, he's rattled a dog for contemplating marking the same rabbit hole as him, total thief food wise, did a 100yrd dash in a public meadow and stole a cupcake off a 4/5 yr old girl, everyone screaming. Don't get me wrong he's got lots of great attributes, although mostly physical....I guess my biggest bug bear is his lack of retrieve, we have a love hate relationship, but he's part of the family, great with the baby, guards house, etc. I won't have another collie blooded dog (unless it's a dash) as I just don't think the suit me(going off the one I've owed) It's hard to put across what I mean, 'he just drives me nuts' sounds like mine barks his nuts off at other dogs. he's laid up with a broken toe but thought we were going lamping when i stuck my jacket on earlier and pissed up my barbour the other week. bloody collies. he's a right star though . oh and as i've just been reminded by her indoors he cocked his leg on the xmas tree. and as for not having another he'll probably live me out Edited January 12, 2015 by robs5230 2 Quote Link to post
Phil Lloyd 10,738
The most important thing with Collie Lurchers,.(in fact, often far more important than in many other hybrids),...is the Collie... It pays to examine closely, both the physical and mental attributes the herding blood contributor,..or the end product can sometimes be heartbreaking and a cruel disappointment.... Few breeds of canine, are as amazingly varied,.as are the various pastoral types,....you have to choose wisely.... 3 Quote Link to post

Once, after much begging, let my ego get the better of common sense and allowed a local lad put my collie over his grew bitch. Despite my concerns over his temperament. The litter produced some handy looking dogs, very physically capable, but all but one of the litter were a pain in the arse. The dogs nuts went in the bin 2 Quote Link to post
trenchfoot 4,243
It,s funny how certain threads diverse from the actual thread, what started out from collie greyhound pics has gone to whats the best type for lamping etc lol, one thing whats come from this post is their aint many folk what keep genuine collie greyhounds. regards collie john. I think thats just a case of evolution John. I personnally think that there are now better dogs to use when creating a collie cross, than just greyhound 4 Quote Link to post

I would have to agree there Ray. seems to give the physique of a quarter bred collie without the detriment to stamina. also the game sense of proven saluki x's goes a long way. I also like a bit of terrier blood in there, as it seems make them less complicated to deal with. But thats just my experience, most would beg to differ 1 Quote Link to post

Unfortunately, he gets knocked up far more than I would like compared to my dogs that have a stronger base line. But its rough old ground around here Quote Link to post

I really enjoy working with the collie cross ! I'm not a one breed man I would try others but for me know the collie cross suits my style of hunting! Quote Link to post
