What To Feed Dog On Holiday?

Recommended Posts

Im thinking of having a walking holiday, round the Isle of Arran, early Summer. i will be taking a rucksack, and stopping at night B&B, as my dog is fed raw, cant carry 8 days supplies, or bags of complete, thinking of just buying tins chappie at local stores,

i know its shite, but its only for 8 days, any other ideas?

From experience, I wouldn't temporarily switch a dog to complete for eight days after years of raw. I tried this once and they were loose for days. I've since found it easier to just find any form of meat in a local shop or supermarket.

Chappie is one of the few tinned foods I'd feed in an emergency: basically rice and fish and far fewer flavourings, colourings etc than many others. Plus, it shouldn't give him the runs, unlike feeding a complete food that he isn't used to. Having said that, feeding a good quality complete such as Purina Pro-Plan will have a less disastrous effect on his guts than some cheap crap food. Just remember that you'd only need to feed a small amount: far less than you would if you were feeding raw, in terms of quantity/weight, that is.

Dried tripe rolled up, it's light to carry but as you know stinks, but it's natural. Don't know how much you could carry though, be a good snack. Wherever the B&B's are I can imagine you could get some type of food for your dog, even Chappie :boogy: .Have a good one atb

Yeah dried tripe, was talking more as a snack whilst out walking. Wouldn't really know if they could live off them for 8 days, probably be better than the tinned sh*te though. CJoe sounds like he doesn't really want to feed his dog on tinned meat, I mean sh*te (who blames him) so it was just a thought tbh.
