The one 8,469
We where out today ferreting wee strips of woods little windbreaks and most of the holes where full of leaves but you could see the holes the rabbits had made going in and out threw the leaves . My sons down arm right down the holes pulling all the leaves out then setting a net , me i put a net over the hole and move on i think i caught most of the rabbits in my nets okay i also had a handful of leaves but there no going to harm the nets so why bother cleaning all the holes out ?, 4 Quote Link to post
terryd 8,400
Yea I wouldnt bother the less disturbance the better plus if a rabbit has to barge through leaves his less likely to notice net any way 4 Quote Link to post

krawnden 1,036
I never bother about the leaves - takes time and makes too much noise. Quote Link to post
TOMO 26,068
Just depends on what is obstructing the hole,,,yeh leaves not much of a problem,,,trouble is there's usually sticks underneath ,,,,drives me insane when folk try and set over these,,,me personally I like to clean all round the hole,,only takes seconds,,,wich then saves time when trying to set with sticks obstructing 4 Quote Link to post

The one 8,469
Its just the time it takes to clear out every hole and it may stop a rabbit from bolting a few wee twigs dont bother me pick up the end ring and give the net a shake most will fall out Quote Link to post
TOMO 26,068
It's not the taking the sticks out after that's the problem,,,,,it's them fouling the net whilst it's working,,, I wear gloves,,and it takes just seconds to pull everything out,,,,I've seen to many nets snag over the years on sticks and rabbits escape,,, I think it's just lazy not removing all the sticks,,,,,vins a c**t for it,,,tries to set nets over all sorts of shit,,,and fails,,,winds me right up,,,,lol 2 Quote Link to post

To be fair, he`s keen as mustard, doesnt hesitate to go in backwards in a mountain of bramble, will crawl on his bare belly under the bottom strand of barbed wire through hedges or even dig 6ft, but hes a c**t for setting nets messy. Then when we pick up and a fair few of his nets look like picasso drew them. Quote Link to post
NELS0N 457
My pet hate is lads not setting purse nets correctly, not too bad when its just a bit of sport and numnbers aren't am issue but when its pest control and the landowner/bill payer is watching it really boils my piss 2 Quote Link to post

Neal 1,857
I used to be a slow, methodical net setter until I went out with Phil Lloyd once (hope you don't mind me name dropping Phil) and he advised me that the less time I spend faffing about the less time I spend potentially making a racket as, no matter how quiet I thought I was, the rabbits undoubtedly thought otherwise. I then took that advice one step further and only netted up easier holes which allowed more runs for the kelpies. Wise words. Quote Link to post
fluff 409
i always take a dog so a net is basicaly to slow the dam thing down i leave holes as they are and look for the run and set the net there ,less disturbance the better , feck cleaning everything , do that when the days over and your sitting having a cup of tea , i would rather place more nets on likly runs than making aracket and the rabbits start sticking , Quote Link to post
