Chuck Rock 18
Anyone used something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BALL-LEAD-SINKER-MOULD-FISHING-WEIGHT-MOULDS-/330828892935#ebayphotohostinglisting ?? Seems cheap enough. Going to cast some lead ammo. Never done it before. Thinking size 1 (10mm sinkers weighing 8 grams) of these - just shy of £15. Or should I save my money for something in a different calibre or a better quality mould?

charlie nelly1 142
Used one of these for a while and they do the job good easy mould
Chuck Rock 18
Cheers. Think I will take the plunge on the 10mm mould. Should be OK with theraband flats I guess. I'm shooting straight cut singles (20mm) at the moment so might have to adjust a bit for the heavier lead? Maybe tapered or wide and folded
Kemperz21 65
Yep I've got one just as good as any other out there if you not casted before be carefull go out and buy some wielding gauntlets
bobcullen79 1,495
Ive got one. Sound really but theres a fair bit of trimming to do. Remember to warm the mould before use, but dont let it get too hot otherwise you (I) got more flash than usual, which then needs trimming.. A couple of these are handy too http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6-x-6-HEAVY-DUTY-METAL-SPRING-CLAMPS-MARKET-STALL-TARPAULIN-TARP-CLIP-/270491378893?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3efa8ae4cd
bobcullen79 1,495
It doesnt mention adding too much lead at once, which cools the already molten lead, forming a skin which pops in your face if your the type to stare into the pan. Fun times..
bobcullen79 1,495
I do scrap the shite off, regularly.. I did stick, to the kitchen ceiling, cooker, my mates shellsuit trackie top and my face. Strangely it didnt burn anything not even the trackie top, weird. Im sure it would have burnt my eyes had it got in there.
Truther 1,579
Iv'e got one of those fishing moulds in size 1 mate, you have to put it in a vice to cast properly, and block the slots up with chemical weld, unless you don't mind trimming 3 times? Something like this is easier, and with a bit of practice you can cast balls quicker than with the fishing weight job, and no snipping with the sprue cutter http://www.henrykrank.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=116_144&products_id=136 .36 is just over 9mm, next size up is .44, just over 11mm, well worth the bit extra imo. magnet 2
They are a good mould i added a hinge and handles to mine .After i trim mine i roll them between two steel plates that finishes them nicely
Truther 1,579
I do scrap the shite off, regularly.. Im sure it would have burnt my eyes had it got in there. The skin on top is tin usually, it just keeps coming out of the lead no matter how much you scrape off, a mate uses one of these, pours from under the skin http://www.rotometals.com/product-p/casting_ladle_bottom2.htm
maxwell 88
Casting lead balls will be no different to when you are casting fishing sinkers, keep your mold warm, scrape the crap off the molten lead with a spoon and pour the full cast in one go
maxwell 88
Aye its not a job id fancy, dun my fair share of welding and burning, same as you got the scars to prove it
