SeanTheHawker 0
Rolf weighed in at 1lb 6 last night, so hit the road. went to the farm i hunted on sunday there. Arrived at about 11:15, fairly breezy night and very bright from moon. first field had about 6 rabbits sittign out, btu only managed one flight. it started at a hedgrow on one side, and cut across the field to a set in the hedge on the far side, nice flight, no kill. climbed over gate into next field, right away had a great flight, with rolf hitting it but not holding. had a scan on down the field, not expectign to see any after teh noise of the last rbabit, but there was one sittign about 30 yards from a ditch, so headed down to it. it started to squat, so i circled it and got upwind of it. quick stomp of the foot and the rbabit was off, rolf quickly behind, didnt get to far before rolf hit it securley on the head, and we had the first of the night, a big buck too. back onto the lane and into another field, 2 rabbits sitting tight to the hedge , it was a long slip, but rolf soon made headway on one, just as he was going for it, it jinked and knocked him off, it cut across to far side of ditch, rolf got up and chased it again, hitting it this time, but only held on for a few seconds. the rabbit then headed back to the set where his mate went into, rolf tried, but he just didnt have the speed flyign into the wind. into next field we went, seen plenty of rbabits, but about 8 curious calfs were in our way most of the time. i didnt manage one flight, were rolf missed it, and gained a little height, only to roll over and stoop on him. i was certain it was in the bag. ran over to see him holdign him while gettign pulled through a wind bush, as i was going in to secure the rabbit, it kicked him off. so headed back to car and was gonna try a field at the other side of the river. on the way back i spotted a set of eyes lit up at the bottom of the field beside the car, kept the beam on and walked up on it, yup it was a rabbit, rolf went in on it, yet again didnt hold it, but managed to get up again of the floor and chase it, managing to catch it this time before it got to the hedge. it was only about midnight, so decided to go for the hatrick and removed the rabbit from him. tried the field across the river, managed one or two long slips with no results, the cows following us where disturbing the rabbits too much. headed back over the river to a few fields i havent lamped this season yet. first field had about 10 rabbits out, and all looked like they would all sit well, but due to the amount of cows in field it would be to risky of a rabbit running through them. the next field had a few rabbits in it, but when we tried to get closer, they just hoped into the sets not to far from them. crossed over to another field and not a single rabbit in it. decided to head back to car and pass through a few fields on the way. next field we went into had lots of long yellow strands of grass(dunno what its called lol) and did spot a set of eyes or two. as i got closer i seen them slowly crawling low to make their way to the hedge, but we could still see them and sliped rolf. a good flight , but no result. headed on down the field and spotted another rabbit, offf rolf went, it was a long slip and i had to run to keep the rabbit in the beam, rolf missed it at the hedge, and as i was running i flushed a rabbit infront of me. rarther than keeping the current rabbit he was chasing lit, i lit the rabbit i just flush, rolf went in on it, but missed, got up again and hit it by the arse, he was holding it, and as i was going in, he managed to get it by the head. it was the hatrick, and cut it for him to feed up on hsi reward. not a bad night considering the conditions, just very tired today at work lol, had the 50 mile journey home still after the hunt.
