nasher1 258
If you read through other sections on this forum you will see that a lot of people have a poor grasp or complete ignorance of the general license. I hope the majority have enough understanding of the licence to keep themselves on the right side of the law. The majority of police officers in the field in my experience have no idea about the general license or shooting laws so danw even though I understand and agree with your points don't run away with it. danw 1,748
Perhaps I have pushed the point and please don't take it personally CC it is not my intention to single you out but in my defence as a keeper we are consistently accused of breaking the law (not suggesting you guys have though)very often by the wider shooting community yet when push comes to shove they are ignorant to the very laws that allow there sport so if possible please excuse me for having the proverbial "bee in my bonnet" with regards the law and shooting Quote Link to post
celticrusader 78
That's OK, as nasher1 and yourself have said there are alot of people none the wiser or even know of the existence of the licences mentioned and that even includes police and people who should know as seasoned shooters of much experience and a lot of people I've met in this category are those. Ignorance is no excuse but we can't know it all but trying to is my intention as your right this is our sport and the vast amount of knowledge in this can be troublesome at best...but that's what we're here for. Deker 3,478
As already stated it went back in 2007, and should have gone years before. My local Post Office didn't keep them so I always had to make a trek to my Main Post Office. After queuing for an eternity, it usually took forever to explain what it actually was, and commonly involved much discussion and debate amongst several PO employees. After much head scratching and deliberation, someone (or more than one) would disappear out the back for so long I thought they were on a coffee break...during which time I would start to stress about my car parking ticket, (I'd only paid for an hour in advance)... they would usually come back with a smile on their face waving a dusty, dog eared book, then they would tell me they never knew these existed. Half the PO staff bogged down, my time and stress, car parking ticket and petrol, and great consternation as the whole PO queue got longer and longer... all for £6. I so miss the good ol' days! John Stott 202
Ah, thats why they looked at me funny last week. I asked for a Dog Licence and proffered 7/6d...... Seriously though, the General Licence is a nightmare to take in, all of it. I find its just knowing "seasons" for this and that that is most important. The main quarry though, for most, is year round. As interestingly would Greylags be now, if fowlers had not lobbied against it. Quote Link to post
