Game Licence?

Recommended Posts

Having been in the military and then lived abroad for a few years I've rather lost track of some of the UK regulations.

Have "game licences" gone the way of the Dodo? We used to have to purchase a seperate licence for pheasants, hare etc. many years ago.

I do believe its classed as the general licence and is all mental knowledge based.

Not at all The game licence used to cost £6 or £4 if you where a keeper It was dropped in 2007 still have my last one somewhere

Sorry let me clear that up, your right Danw..the general licence is all I'm aware of at this moment and the game licence is indeed gone now.

Post office used to do them if I remember right.

Why mention the general licence it has no relevance to game birds at all?

Because danw it is the only one we go by as you've stated the game licence is gone and maybe Cedric or anyone else was unaware of even this.

You still miss the point what has the general licence to do with game shooting his question was quite simple Do I need a licence to shoot pheasant or hare the answer is no you do not and since neither hare nor game birds are covered by the General licence its mention is purely irrelevant

Well I don't miss the point as you've stated that they were both two separate licences and one is no longer required.

I mentioned it firstly because I was under the impression that it covered game shooting..I can understand that I was wrong but why make a meal about it danw?

I pointed it out simply because as seems to oft be the case people who shoot have very little idea of the legislation covering their sport

Well I knew that the game licence is no more and as I never had one or shot game i had no reason to have one, what year or date it ceased I had no idea and thought that it was either covered under the general licence or had gone the same way, we are all here to share info and help i am also under no illusion that I know everything and have no problem be corrected if iam wrong.

Does it not though imply that you have limited knowledge of the general licence? I do not profess to know everything BUT I take keeping appraised of the very legislation that allows us shoot very seriously as should all who partake in our sport.

Well I will admit that it has been awhile since I have read upon the intricate details of the licencing but my original post was a passing comment that was free to correction but I was also unaware of the badgering I would receive for this.

There is a lot of information to take on board within our sport and I guess I'm a little guilty of not reading up on every tiny little detail and memorising it all.
