Giro i know what i ment to get across and luckily socks obviously read it like that other wise what i wrote wouldnt of made sence whats going on in my head can sometimes be hard to write down as i have to think before i write i know what i ment and will stand by my BULLSHIT statement if thats ok with you......And after checking my thread i did mention FIT which in my eyes means more stamina than physical fitness for my dogs always have some sort of muscle ie physical form but in closed season dont have much fitness really to write home about not to do hard graft as this is there time to chill and enjoy a few quiet mooch`s.

Pictures dont say feck all about a dogs fitness you cant tell me that a picture of a muscular whippet grey and a picture of a toned saluki cross determins the individuals fitness thats bollocks

hmm which way can you take that like, so i stick by my bullshite statement mate... :pardon:

the way it came across to me as if you were saying the dogs pictured in the thread means feck all and that there not fit...

giro that is absolutely correct .... how can you tell by looking at a picture if a dog is fit or not ... you couldnt tell if a a dog was fit or not if you handeled it and checked it over for an hour .... what you could tell is that the dog was muscled and proportioned and taht the muscle mass firm and well balanced on the dog .... the only way you can tell a dogs fitness is by watching it run game after game and gauging his stamina and recovery time after each run depending on its duration and ground covered ...............

I 100 % agree with that And know you are a very knowledgeable dog man...

Seen some pics on here the dogs need a good feed or the nails clipped a pic is just the surface granted..

If the dogs looking toned up its an indacation to me that it being exercised worked in a fashion and not kennel bound its not just the muscle its the shine in the coat the sparkle in the dogs eye..

Royston Fit dose not by any lengh mean stamina And lets throw and other equation in what is stamina????

Running a hares for 4 mins and taking it and then doing it again or taking 30 lamped rabbits like a yoyo My dog has stamina but it could not even compare to a daytime hare dog running on big ground ...

Stamina is with in the make up of the dog my beddy cross can be fit but will always lack stamina...But what i am getting at is she will never look as muscled up as others there fore getting back to what i was talking about her fitness can not be determined by a photo....

a dog that is fit has the ability to recover very quickly from a hard run and has its tongue in quickly and is ready to go again .... for example a dog that is fit should easily be able to run 20 rabbits on the beam one after another and not be taxed .... stamina is the ability to run at speed for a prolonged time and distance with no respite as a dog on a good winter hare is required to do (pre ban of course) but to be a succsesfull dog in the field you need to have both in equal measures otherwise your dog with exceptional stamina will catch the said hare but will be no good for the rest of the day as it will be knackered .... similarly your super fit dog will be able to run hare after hare but never have the stamina to actually stay long enoughe to catch one ...............

Mabie your dog yes fitness cant be determined by photo and mabie like socks says you need to see the dog in the feild but i can show you a pic of my dog in the summer when it was FIT but not running fit and the pic i previously posted the change is there to be seen the dog has improved..

I Dont want you to think i was snipping at you royston just exploring / divulging on what's been said...

Its also not been mentioned on fitness and training... I use a ball for fitness and enforces the retrieve also swimming.

I agree, Millets dog Sam, can honestly run all night, no exageration, but never looks muscled up. I think its a bit like runners, sprinters are muscled up, long distance runners always look lean.

Stop asking hard questions :unknw:

Im probably completely wrong, its just the way my mind works  A muscled up person would definately be able to run a marathon providing they are fit (muscle does not always=fit) BUT they would not be able to do it as fast or for as long as a lean person who just trains for stamina and endurance?

at the end off the day every dog is different some dogs run well when they are light some dogs run better with some shape about them .. the sire to my new pup was built like a pit bull ...but hes 3/4 saluki 1/4 lurcher and a real good dog on the old long ears ....and could stay forever .... hes got a big chest and huge hind quarters ....so every dog is different .......really the thread is about how you personally get your dog in shape ....and putting a pic up of your mutt ...if the dog looks fit on the pic and you say its fit who is anbody to question you ... :D ........all the best snoop
