StephenWalsh 73
I don't think you can really. I'm not saying that people haven't done it, but I don't think it's a great way to keep a customer coming back. 2 Quote Link to post
Phil Lloyd 10,738
I can see where Perthshire Keeper is coming from.... However,..the most important thing for a Pro-Trapper to consider,..is the customer... Facts are,.a regular client is a bill payer.... I've had some mole and rabbit customers, for over 30 years,...and they have looked after me handsomely... Once you have been hit by a trap thief,..the job is fecked anyway.. It is pointless laying more traps, cos the feckers will simply come back,..(I've lost several hundred over the years) Sometimes ya just gotta take it on the chin,.. and walk away... It hurts,..of course it hurts,...but that is the way of things... Trap chorers, dog and ferret thieves,...are vermin of the lowest order,..unfortunately,...they rarely fall into your hands... Maybe,..it is for the best, eh... 3 Quote Link to post
tilimangro 1,013
I've seen on another forum guys charging for stolen traps Personally I'd take it on the chin Quote Link to post

3175darren 1,101
Theaving twats, I bought a trail camera I havnt had any knicked yet, but if I trap anywhere I think is dodgy I put it up, never had any problems yet though, Quote Link to post
nod 285
I had 15 rabbit cages taken few weeks back, it's not the farmers fault, take it on the chin and get back out there, if I had a few mole traps nicked I would put more markers out there but fill the hole with shit or put a different trap in there just waiting for some slippery fingers 4 Quote Link to post

Sorry to hear , mate. This kind of thing can really get to you, too,......Its why i NEVER use markers. (or do you reckon, you could have been being watched, anyway ?) Im not setting the volume of traps, that some are, though. Quote Link to post
perthshire keeper 1,239
well....their is a fenceing team working on the farm next door (that i also trap on) but used a field on the far side of the road belonging to the client to get to the job...2 days back the lad (about my age) about my age stopped by the gate and said hi as i was setting a trap, him being a ag worker i thought nowt of it and kept working away now this job is up croasdale back in the arse end of no-where and he was the only person to see me... that and their is quad tracks going from trap to trap in the fecking field! and the client dosent take his quad onto thease fields because its 2mile from his farm so to my mind its the boyo on the quad.... but i spoke to the client and he was very upset about the whole thing and told me not to lose faith in the job and keep going and he "will make it right" and offerd me a half dozen old scissor traps or to go ang get me some from carrs billington tomorrow. i just said at the time dont worry about it we will work it out. its not so much the traps its the moles i KNOW i had in them! i wish to hell i had a trial cam because i would have a trap set saying that a 4 inch gin would probly do the job well 1 Quote Link to post

micky 3,325
Me and another lad got caught pinching a trap with a rabbit in it , it was back in the 50s in a sandpit outside of Edinburgh, a gamekeeper and the local copper got hold of us and gave us both a real battering [scotch b*****ds] they wanted to take it further but when my mam and uncle Pat came to fetch us she told them i would get plenty more when i got home plus my uncle was in the Black Watch witch also helped the job 1 Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
Be careful marking traps..... when on places of high public footfall, I know if i put a little flag in the ground then i'd be losing a hell of alot of traps. You have to mark covertly. One way is to flatten a molehill on each side of the trap, i also often mount a molehill up on top of the trap just so it looks like a regular hill. if you must use markers then don't have the markers near your traps, have them away from the trap, just as a guide. Most trap thefts will happen in the darkness so the thief will go to the markers and only look there, they won't find a hidden trap in the darkness.........thats JMHO.....JD 2 Quote Link to post
socks 32,253
Instead of a mole trap put a nice nail trap in there coated with shit ... Sepsis is a horrible thing ........... Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
They wouldn't pull the traps with their hands I wouldn't think....they would use a tool of some sort for locating them quickly in the dark, probing until the metal of the trap was felt and then whip it out.If the trap is far enough away from the marker then it would be pretty safe...IMO Quote Link to post
Butler 396
It's ok not marking traps on small jobs but on big hill farms it's not an option imo...... I mark mine and still loose a dozen or so every season due to memory or lack of it lol.... 1 Quote Link to post
