Charging For Stolen Traps

Recommended Posts

Did the pegs go as well? Asking as have what I thought stolen traps but pegs still in place, put this down to fox/badger taking trap away with tasty mole within.

If stolen, then need to covertly mark traps, whether its no marking but a plan on paper/photo taken on phone to help identify location.

Think you will just have to bear the cost yourself. If most of your jobs are free from problems, then see it as a little from each job goes towards the problematic jobs.

I had a guy out with me for a week, teaching him mole trapping. On the last day Friday we set 27 traps in a field near the road,( I have trapped this farm for years )

Went back on my on Sunday ALL the traps from that field gone even my markers.

I reckon it was this guy I had out with me, never let him near me again.

On the golf course I loose a few , found a different way of marking them now

if ime on a footpath or some where i know will be walked on i wont mark but ime running over 100 traps in heavy infested fields and my mind cant keep on with them all! a few hils in a field then its ok but not big jobs. and this spot is as far from any where as possible!

the main point is the quad tracks from trap site to trap site to trap site points firmly at eather a neighbouring farmer ( no in this case as i trap for all them too) or the lad on the fencing team!

the markers were all just pulled out and laying about where they were i suspect they were used ot set the traps off after they were pulled out.

I know what you mean,mate.The type of situation,your describing,i realise you need to " mark " them,somehow.

When I used to do golf courses,,,had 4 on the go for a good few year,,,,I used to right down where they were,,,ie 4 set on the second tea,,,or second fairway,,hole ect,,, I also used to trap a lot in the actual mole hil on the golf courses,,and of course just use tunnels,,,somtimes used to use ground marker spray piant,,,,and I had a metal detector

Might be worth going back to the fields that they were stolen from and stick a load of markers about with no traps placed, if you can get hold of a trail cam place it and if the thick scum fu@cker returns you might have a chance of getting your traps back.

If you lived near me you could borrow my cam no worries.

Put your markers in a few yards away from your traps, and make a hill over the traps. They won't be found . :victory:

Another thought

Speaking to a mole catcher, who like you had big fields, he was using GPS to mark positions. Had a hand held gps system that you would use for geo caching. said worked very well.

For me, mud and electonics don`t go hand in hand.

Having the marker away from trap seems a good idea, could you point the trap marker in the direction of trap, to make easier to find.

I have used this system, I always place a couple of pieces of farmers twine where trap is, the twine is quite common place around farms, pieces 2" long wont harm animals help me identify trap without making it obvious to others. Before I did this I always thought i would remember where the traps were, very very difficult to locate as everything looks the same

Nearest thing i use to a marker, would be the 'square of turf'. ,I do exactly as you say, mate. (least i know, im in the vicinity !) You can help disguise most of the trap types, the way you describe, as well,.....
