trenchfoot 4,243
Last night the wife and I were invited for a few drinks and pre xmas nibbles at a posh neighbours, as they would be away over xmas and new year. mostly friends, but one couple I didn't know, but I was fairly certain that it was a farmer who farms around 2000 acres here abouts. I had never spoken to him in person as every time I saw him on the quad bike, I always happened to be walking in the opposite direction to him. throughout the evening I exchanged a few short pleasantries with him and his wife. Usual stuff, weather, xmas, etc. And then went on to catch up with a few old friends. I noticed the wife chatting to the farmer and his misses, and later she said the same type of chat had gone on. Weather, chickens, dogs etc. the night was good and many drinks were had. This afternoon, as usual I took a couple of the dogs for an amble up one side of the valley and back around to home. Well the farmer from the night before was sat behind the bridge! He said that the wife had told him that I came this way most afternoons whilst walking the lurchers. and that she was surprised that we had never bumped into each other! So he had changed his routine of checking stock in one valley in the morning and stock in the next in the afternoon. Just so we could have a proper catch up. Fair play to the old lad as we had a giggle about it. After 6 years of walking the same land, and not knowing I'd been about he wasn't that bothered. "mind how you go, and don't do 'owt daft" was how we left it. Sounds like permission to me. But you can bet I had a word with the misses when I got home! 2 Quote Link to post

That said he has a herd of belted galloways and they scare the sh#t out of me. Just too unpredictable. even for cattle Quote Link to post

Cant think of one that hasn't give me permission yet. Same here, in fact one of my kids is going over to play at a mate of his, who live on a farm. So he has been prompted to mention rabbit / rat control etc. The wife on the other hand is a nightmare, means well and try's to get me more permission when opportunities arise but let's her gob run away with itself. And has mentioned things that shouldn't be caught and how accidents often happen etc Quote Link to post
saluki365 35
no better still when your going for a hunt bring the wife along drop her of a the farmer,s house tell her to go in and keep him talking while you go for a hunt on his land and if she hang,s you again tell her she can go live in his hay shed.
