bryanm45 787
Wouldn't a whippet x Grey longdog be more what your looking for, size and speed wise. 1 Quote Link to post
Sorefoot 30
Had a greyhound bitch a few years back, she would mark and retrieve rabbits. Work well on the lamp, recall was spot on. She could kill fox and hare single handed back in the days when it was legal. Only got her to produce a litter of lurchers but ended up keeping her as well as a pup because she was so handy. poachers apprentice 136
if you want a dog to run off the slip and catch what it see,s then really do you need a lurcher ? greyhounds are pretty much purpouse bred for slip and catchhunting Quote Link to post
jukel123 8,701
Nearly every post in this thread mentions life threatening/fatal injuries. To me it's cruel to run a greyhound on rough ground, especially ex track dogs with no experience of running except sanded tracks. Edited December 18, 2014 by jukel123 2 Quote Link to post
Westyorkshire_lad 402
Surely a whippet x grey would be in same category injury wise? Quote Link to post

old school 562
http://www.greyhound-data.com/greyhound/2106872/504/Greyhound_Killeacle_Lulu-big.jpg That's the sort of build I'd sought after... A nice wee sprinter!! To be honest, when I look back on some of greys I had injured they actually weren't much worse than the lurchers I also had injured... The last lurcher I had killed was a whippet/bull x greyhound that broke her neck on a concrete drinking trough whilst lamping... In comparison, the greyhound I lamped after her only got cut on barb wire and she was killed by the vet when she sedated her for stitches, and the b*****d billed me anyway!!! At the end of the day my advise is to try get it as young as possible and show it some field craft... Ex track dogs usually can't even get through a gate never mind getting it over a fence!!! Sorefoot 30
Ex track dogs tend to end up injured but the one I had was reared as a lurcher and had many seasons under her belt Quote Link to post
dogmad riley 1,347
My mate had one ex trackdog, and what a dog she was she would take Fox regular and loved it never once jacked but she also loved ferrets and small dogs managed to get her used to small dogs but ferrets no chance. She took Fox, hare well, not so good on rabbits. The prey drive was unreal but as for brains they were non existent Quote Link to post
