Popular Post 2.8 guy 403
Well to say ive not been enjoying my sport as much as I should have is a understament, my young dog hasn't been impressing me that much and ive been at a low eb to say the least due to some home issues and the keepering course falling through also getting a bit bored with hunting the same land same quarry so been doing a little bit of hunting with the hounds odd bit of digging just to get me out the house and the young useless out for a shite. But yesterday gave me a real boost I have been picking up a little in mood since my birthday on the 9th when the wife bought me a mp3 player she'd put some of my favs on weller the smiths pink floyd ect but she also put on some jake bugg and to be honest his albums have picked me right up ive been getting on with a few of those jobs ive been putting off and the more ive done the better ive felt. Anyway my mate calls up for a brew and for me to look on line for him to look for a new motor he carnt read or write so finds it hard these days with everything being web based, any way after a hour or so going through endless ads I said got cabin fever we off lamping tonight? yeh dont see why not he normally drives the land but its been too wet to get out so was looking forward to just getting out He wanted to treat himself to a new lamp one of the lazer light cordless jobs so a quick trip to the gun shop and we was set I stuck it on charge for a hour and had some tea and the spur of the moment trip was on On the way up to the dales we was talking about how id been feeling what I thought of the young dog and how the hunting seen was going kev and I have have been mates since our teens and our mentors was best mates this kid knows what a dog should be and we dont bullshit each other we say it how it is he had a little black dog around 24 inch something on the saluki whippet greyhound lines and a good dog at a certain thing this was the first time he'd had it out just rabbiting on foot and was keen to see how it run on the land and on the bunnys I had my pup a lurcher to lurcher cross with a little bull, collie and saluki greyhound in her well say pup 14 months old and I say a little saluki she has taken more to this side in her mental attitude and ways A great pet very loyal steady but a bit numb and a real sense of yeh im my own time and this is how she runs chasing but not with any real sense of wanting to catch and as soft as a baby lamb she does walk to heal off the lamp and has impecable manners as most of my dogs have had her retreiving has been very poor and a bug bare of mine as this is the only dog ive had not to she will a rabbit skin dummy but up to press never brought a caught rabbit back I must have taught her how to sit 100 times as a pup gone out the next day said sit for her to look at me daft lol any way at twelve months old I once said sit bang strait down it made me realise she had learnt the first time it was she just didnt want to do it and the feeling was the same regards the retrieving after that hoping it would come As we approached cattrick the heavens opened it dawned on me shit id left my water proofs my mate had also done the same we got to the land I honestly felt like saying im stopping here in the van not being too optermistic re my dogs performance but decided to leave a fleece in the van so I had something dry to put on when I got back and braved it As I thought after the first run no signs of commitment just a course rabbit getting away then my mates run with his little black dog a little gun ho and to be honest made a meal of it but a catch all the same We then seperated and another 2 got away from me in quick succession dog the same just running behind the rabbits not really showing any signs that the dog was doing anything more than chasing I was hoping now that that 1 hour the new lamp of my mates was going to run out quick We met back up in the next couple of fields and he had caught a couple more and the next two runs was his due to the rabbits not been suitable for a pup to run the little dog now had settled and was making it look easy working the rabbit just right and when bam strait picked up was a pleasure to watch A sitter out in the field was spotted and off I went as I drew close it got a bit twitchy and the dog had clocked it so off she was sent the bunny set off and the dog got up close real quick there was a change her head now was slung lower her running was with much more vigore at times her mouth was open poised to strike I could see a change she was trying new ideas a catch was had and to my suprise a sound retrieve followed not to hand but good enough to say I was pleased was a understament the black bomber was on fire hovering them up really steady running controlling the course and shupp bang having em strait over we was starting to enjoy the night even though after 40 mins I was soaked to the bone my mates new lamp was great too and well on my shopping list a bright and nice tight beam maybe a little too tight but when all said and done a cordless lamp that is very usable so my mate was very happy The next rabbit was caught by my pup and another retrieve was had then a couple of misses but the dog was trying so I wasnt too upset I had seen promise a little glint of hope a change in the dogs attitude something id been waiting to see since 10 months old the dog had made its mind up it wanted to catch and not just course I made my way to kev to say my next catch was my last of the night to which he replied what the fecking dogs done nowt whats up with you nothing I said the van heater is calling and the dogs keen so we will stop now before it becomes a choir another nice run was had by the pup a little long for a rabbit in this place but didnt give it a minute piece and a half retrieved followed I watched kevs little black dog taking the rabbits on my way back in fine style my dog dancing on the end of its slip watching I new she had clicked and I was happy and didnt mind saying so Kev was told to stay out as long as he wanted and go were ever as I walked away the dog was let off the slip and to heal she stayed she followed me through a small wood and over a broken down wall with a make shift sheep net repair being very steady over and waiting the other side she is a real pleasure like that Back at the van I peeled my wet through clothes off and put on my fleece the dog had a quick wipe down and I climbed in rolling my wet trackies down and sat in my undies started up the van and after a short while got the heater on cup of coffee trusty mp3 on and relax About a hour later kev turns up happy as larry lamp still going strong a right piece of kit lazerlight 150 by the way gets his wet clothes off and gets in the van jeans down to his ankles well to say if anyone had have seen us sat there like that feck nows what they would of thought A couple of giggles over a near miss and a pair of scolded ballecks from a hot coffee and the drive home was started laughing and joking all the way not a great score for me or kev but by what a great night had we both commented on how this was what it used to be like just going out having fun enjoying what we was given driving home in our under pants 37 Quote Link bird 9,872
well at least you didn't blank and getting wet as well . ive been that wet sometimes , just drove back in my wet clothes lol I can handle being wet all over ,apart from my feet , carnt stand wet feet- plus if my feet get to wet I get (athletes feet) and itch to fook. its funny really when were lamping, we don't seem to notice anything be it (cold, wet, dark,), only if the dog don't catch we notice anything . 2 Quote Link to post
