It's a repeat mating from 2 handy dogs. C/b/g sire over a Hancock half cross bitch. 1 Quote Link to post

fluff 409
pre ban had several allrounders hare rabbit roe odd fox all taken with abit of style, its a hard task to keep breeding qaulity allrounders, with the political ban ,but such is life i would go for a real well bred collie lurcher or , top class coursing dog to a real well bred colie type something fast and agrresive on the chase , Quote Link to post
fluff 409
i here people saying any lurcher ,thats bull shit you need pace ,running sense ,good feet good stamina , you dont get that if not bred selectivly and useing abit common sense 3 Quote Link to post
Moorside 642
From the replies here it shows how widely people's view of what an "allrounder" is varies. For me its taking ANYTHING that gets up. For others its also doing a gundogs jobs etc Edited December 18, 2014 by Moorside 5 Quote Link to post

For me its taking ANYTHING that gets up. For others its also doing a gundogs jobs etc I don't think there are many lurchers, if raised properly and taught some basic obedience, that won't work the gun to some extent. At least flushing to the gun and retrieving shot game. My old bitch picked it up after a handful of outings and whilst no expert she certainly did the job. Your pup will be more than capable if it's something you fancied in the future. An all rounder for me has to do all the above, jump, retrieve to hand, work with ferrets, work with bushing dogs, and also have a good temperament and be a pleasure to be around in general. Just as happy in the pub as in the field. These neurotic mental sorts that need work 24/7 are no use to me. 1 Quote Link to post
Moorside 642
Like I said pal its subjective one mans allrounder is different to another's. Its all about youre needs and the dog being able to do all the jobs asked of it, I dont go ferreting at all so its not on my list and only shoot occasionally and thats on the lamp from 4x4....as I said mine need high drive to do what we require. What I was saying is, a half decent lurcher with a good upbringing should be adaptable. You don't know where you will be in 5 years and what you will be doing. But if you decide to change your ways slightly, a good "all rounder" should be able to adapt to that. An all rounder (to me) isn't a list of what the dog can and can't do. It's more about it's temperament and being willing to try new stuff. And I've met dogs with "high drives" that are equally laid back outside of the field and these are the type that i think can go on to make good all rounders. The high drive neurotic types are point and slip merchants and that's about it, you wouldn't get one of them working the gun. But as said some lads don't need that, they just want point and slip and dogs back in kennels. But that's not really an all rounder. Each to their own ? Quote Link to post
