Wheaton Dog

Recommended Posts

I could be looking for a wheaton dog to put over my greyhound bitch. Im not 100% sure yet but its my second choice after my old dog. Have any of you lads got a wheaton doing the job?? This is the dog im thinking of putting over my bitch. He is a deerhound greyhound collie grey 8 yr old and done everything I have ever asked of him. His drive and determination is second to none .post-58321-0-33042100-1418776059_thumb.png

He's 27tts he's done everything I have asked of him. He's been an excellent fox dog as well. The breeding in him goes back 25 year. My only concern about putting him to my greyhound is its only going to add sheer speed. A deerhound greyhound bitch would be ideal to put him to.

What are you hoping to get from the Wheaton that your dog hasn't got? It sounds like your dog has the balls already! I know using him will throw big pups etc but it depends what you are after as an end result. I would be tempted to stud him out to a decent bitch as described and have pick of the litter unless your dead certain of breeding from your greyhound bitch.

I prefer good size dogs. He definitely has the balls. The bitch gets used every weekend when im out with the terriers shes a machine. I imagine the pups would turn out like my old dog I used to have. I have studed him out but all the bitches have been bull x and Im not keen on putting bull into the breeding.post-58321-0-14455800-1418806216_thumb.jpg thats my old dog. He was a tool as well.

Im just going to put the big dog over the greyhound, keep a bitch back and hopefully she will make the grade and whens shes proven herself if she does fingers crossed I will put her to a deerhound x greyhound.

first x wheaton grey rarely come tall , and often cobby.

If you wanted to get height but add the fire you get from a wheaton then youd be better off putting a halfcross on the greyhound.

plus the temperament would probably be very different from a DH/Collie/Grey

Totally agree with this post. It is hard to loose the terrier gate in a first cross. My 3\4 reverse dog put to a greyhound produced a litter of pups that ranged from 24" to 27" and all had a good turn of pace and moved well. The larger of the pups where a little light for my taste though. They where of a similar stamp to the older dog at the top of the page. Thats just going of the picture if they where side by side it might be a different story.
