77 Or 97

Hello, just a quick bit of advice..

 

Have been thinking about buying a hw underlever.. Should I go for the 77 or the 97... Tough question I think as google was no help.. Any input? I want to start a project have seen some really awesome looking ones but want to hunt with it too.. going to be some pros and cons but would rather hear some actual owners rather than YouTube adverts!!

emmm id say down to your personal taste both good guns but quite heavy personally not a fan of the underleaver but from the ones ive shot id be torn by the air arms pro sport and the 97 but then im not the broadest of blokes lol... my second gun was a 85k and will always be a guilty pleasure for me

I think adding the 85k has made it even more complicated some nice looking examples of them too ! Haha

haha sorry mate yea there quite hard to come by mines supposdly sitting in a pals loft i lent it him 10 years ago and aint seen him since maybe it will turn up in maybe not oh what the future may hold hahaha

I own both a 97K .177 and an HW77 .22 and hunt with both. Given the (impossible) choice of hunting rabbits, squirrels and pigeons with just one sub-12 ft/lb air rifle to own I'll take my HW77 .22 every time. The full length HW77 rifle I have is just about as close to a perfect hunting spring air rifle as I've ever known. Accurate as any top notch PCP, beautifully balanced and tuned to an almost recoilless shot and hits hard to 35-45 metres and out to 50 metres and over. What more can I say? Weight is not an issue, it is not so heavy as to be unmanageable. I shoot from static positions and stalk with it without a problem.

 

My 97K is a beauty too. In .177 it is another superbly accurate and hard hitting hunter. But I will always have a softer spot for my trusty 77!

You can not get any better advice than off the springer king him self piano man noes his stuff when it comes to the two rifles you mention,d sound advice as all ways Simon :thumbs:

 

But just like you have a soft spot for the 77 i have for the 97 and the pro sport

I had a 177 9 about 4 year ago and it's the only springer I regret selling as I was dropping pheasant and bunny at some nice long ranges with confidence

There both the same and you'll see no different in accuracy at all with either... its which you like the look of more

They are v similar, but not the same, 77 has slightly longer barrel open sights and a slightly lower cheekpiece for above reason. Internals are the same though.

oh yes one for fur one for feathers!! got two 2.2 as well cant make my mind up about what 1.77 tho like the ultra but shot count is low esp in 1.77 flavour got a feeling gonna go for the bsa hornet well see!!!
