Danielm7353 3
My friend has a break barrel SMK break barrel .22 but there is about a 2 inch drop or rise in the shot never really the same. We cleaned the barrel and hav adjusted the scope several times, the scope is a teasco scope that came off a Winchester .22 rifle (not an airrifle) would this have anything to do with it? Danielm7353 3
We tried game rockets and gamo magnums bought off. One lad is blaming the scope he sayes it is not airrifle rated not sure Quote Link to post
treecreeper 1,136
try some decent pellets, rws superdomes, aa field or jsbs and check everthings tight, does it have a silencer fitted? Edited December 14, 2014 by treecreeper Quote Link to post
mark williams 7,558
Check all the stock screws are nipped up tight - makes a big difference. atb Edited December 14, 2014 by mark williams Quote Link to post
Danielm7353 3
No silencer, great power in it, would the scope have anything to do with it. I must try changing the pellets so Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
Which SMK is it? As I recall none made great power out of the box. Don't mistake feeling recoil with great power! Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Try a trusted scope off another rifle, if it shoots straight, then thats your problem. Quote Link to post
SimonC_Here 36
As it is a break barrel and a cheaply made one, it is probably a problem with the barrel lock up. That would account for the up down movements you are seeing. Dodgy pellets would scattergun rather than just be up and down. Simon Quote Link to post
Adrian Kenny 64
My first rifle was a fixed smk, my shots were all over the place and I put it down to me being a novice.. Tin of pellets later and I was tighter but still hugely unpredictable... As my proficiency grew and I tried a few more pellets things got slightly better, I tried all the big brand pellets and nothing really worked bisley magnums flew everywhere!!!. I got a good deal on some Anglo arms pointed pellets on amazon and they gave me at 25yrds free standing 1-2" groups.. With more skill I might get it better but for me that was enough for plinking and some rat bashing!! With the smk's ( being at the lower end of what you can afford unfortunately my state of finances at the mo) you are getting what you pay for, everyone always says that.... but it's true.. The newer "breed" are meant to be better but my db5 needed a bit if work ( a crap pellet sat wrong when I fired it the skirt blew and ruined the breech seal) washing machine plastic washer ( and some brute force and ignorance) got it going again! My advice would be get a gamo slightly better, and anything can be better than my crazy smk trigger!! Haha with no safety as standard and a weird two stage trigger (I say weird as the bite seems to change) I have let shots off a little early.. Not great for groupings! Mine never rattled but as a few people mentioned tightening things up or letting them "bed in" will help, read the sticky about springers, should help!! A Quote Link to post
kenj 131
It might be down to your "hold" on the rifle, although the barrel lock may be the answer, if loose. Try resting the rifle on your shooting bag, only holding the pistol grip, this should eliminate the bounce from the spring and allow a better assessment. Quote Link to post
