hi guys i am looking for a folding knife making kit with small blade , just fancy having a go , i do have one of midnights fixed blades which i bought as something to keep and pass onto my son as it was bought with money left to me when my dad died hence it doesnt get used much i tend to use my opinel more .

my question is would i be better off buying a knife and replacing the handle/scales or is there a decent kit available i was thinking of something like this http://www.heinnie.com/kershaw-shuffle-18711

thanks in advance

I don't know where to get one but I think there is loads of folding knife kits available .

Folding knives are way out side my ability , there's loads of engineering in them . I wish I was able to make them .... I spent a small fortune last year cad designing a friction folder in 3D model format . I still can't make the bloody thing !!

Some guys pimp the hell out of opinels, s,a,k, you name it .

As always I would start with the most important part , the blade !

Nothing is more important than that I whole heartedly believe . Any knife with soft stainless or badly tempered carbon is just a novelty otherwise .why not start with an opinel ? You know the blades good , simple design and easily modified .

Replace the wood with antler or something and your 50% custom .

I can chemically blacken the blade for you , after getting it razor .... 79% custom ?

Around £25 for the sheath unless it's really complicated and needs more than one leather type .

I could do some fixed blades if folks want them ? Small slender blades .. I have 3mm steel in stock and some 15n20 nickle steel (for Damascus) but it's thin for simple knives .

After typing the incurs genet to try s pumped opinel I think il try one myself ha ha

I'd be really keen to get a simple fixed blade without handle, I've got some lovely wood here thats too small for wood turning but too good to use as kindling
