grittyfeist 1
Hello hope the tittle doesn't sound strange, iv recently decided to get a new dog after my male (feast x dicker terrier) got killed by a coyote and iv set my sights on a bull terrier. For the last month and half I've been searching ever website that Google will bring me for bull terrier for sale ads and have come up with very few results, every thing iv seen is either out of my price range or is to far to travel and get, until last week. While searching Craigslist of surrounding states I finally found what id been searching for, a one and a half year old ebt with the the old style head leaner muscular body and after talking to the owner it sounded like it may have the natural prey drive that iv been looking for. That as a matter of fact was there reason of them wanting to get rid of it. While talking to the owner I heard everything that I wanted to hear it goes nuts over squirrels hated cats and had killed more than three raccoons in there back yard, but that's when I think I may have made a mistake. After hearing the part about the coons I opens my fat mouth to say "that's perfect that's what I'm hoping to train him for is to hunt coon and groundhogs and if he trees squirrels that's great too". Soon after that she said she had to go and that she would call me back later to tell me were we could meet at and haven't been able to get ahold of her since. So can I ask you folks a question? The next time I find what I'm looking for should I just keep my mouth shut or should I let the owner know that I intend to hunt with the dog that I'm trying to get from them? Has any one here had similar experiences while trying to get a dog? Quote Link to post
neil cooney 10,416
We have an old saying this side of the world. "A fool and his money are easily parted". Bare that in mind. Try this, ring every add for EBT's that you see and I'll bet you that 90% of them have the gamest dogs there are. Try it ? 2 Quote Link to post
David K 172
It's always best to talk as little as possible about hunting and fieldsports when speaking to new people, I've always found like minded people will suss each other out pretty quickly but there are a lot of gentle souls out there who live in a world of fluffy bunnys and Disney characters. Just play your cards close to your chest when enquiring about a dog and you wont offend these people. 3 Quote Link to post
gnasher16 30,455
Why not just buy a dog from proven and tested stock in the first place ?.................That way you can ask whatever you like 9 Quote Link to post
Slippery_Weasel 460
The people who are selling it sound like idiots. They want to get rid of it because it kills coons yet don't want to sell it to someone that sees that as a plus point. Presumably they are wanting to sell it to someone else who also has an issue with it killing stuff! I always play my cards pretty close to my chest regards hunting when speaking to new people. It did kind of seam like she was kind of offended right after I mentioned hunting, not right out in words but in town of voice. I think your both right, if I find what I'm looking for again I'm just going to half to keep my mouth closed about my intentions to hunt with the dog. Quote Link to post

I was willing to go on a 5 hour car ride to get this particular dog but I consider this is as far as I'm willing to travel in order to get a dog. Quote Link to post

Is that a round trip or 1 way.as i would consider 4hrs local but would travel anywhere for the right dog mate.thats why when you look at terriers these days they are getting up to 19inches as there no selective breeding.as joe bloggs around the corner has a dog to use and its cheaper to use and closer than the 1 you should be using.sorry mate but anything to save a few quid instead of inproving the breed pisses me off over greed or easyness. If you end up wasting your time on a shit dog because you wasnt willing to travel you will only have yourself to blame and you cant get time back........better to travel 5 hours for a proven dog you can have faith in than travel to the end of the street for a dog off untested stock you are chancing your arm on. 7 Quote Link to post
