I completely agree that a white dog is not to be disregarded as a good dog because of its colour. I ran a white dog and would love to have another like him but we are just talking pros and cons here not the be all and end all of a good dog so If I was to pick a pup from a litter and the pup with all the best physical and mental attributes was white ide pick it but all things equal ide take a darker coloured dog. We only have to look at nature itself to see the importance of camafluage to a hunter/predator. The only white pedators I can think of live where there is snow. Or look at the colouration of a fish, usually dark on top and light on bottom (when predator hunting from above looks down its hard to spot against the depths, when prey looks up its harder to spot against the daylight) , evolution/ nature at its best. If we stick close to natures rules when hunting it cant be a bad thing. Just another point about most of the coarsing dogs being light coloured, assuming most of the coarsing dogs are saluki or saluki based , maybe its just coincidence as im not well up on these fine athletes but I reckon they would not stick out like a sore thumb in the desserts from which they originally hail.

Thanks for all the replies,I've got nothing against the colour other than working injuries and thought that even the smallest of cuts would appear a lot worse than it is.The pup would also be a house dog and seen by a lot of people.As for the deafness comment how likely would that be? It's only 3 weeks old at the moment so wouldn't be easy to check yet.

thanks for that , as it happens I chose the fawn pup in the end but wanted other views to see if my reasons were totally irrational nothing to choose between them otherwise..
