brenner 773
Only pro i can think off are if your out in the evening mooching and its getting dark, you can still see were your dog is. The only con is , that you will be a little less stealthy at night in regards to both quarry and angry farmers. 1 Quote Link to post
DEERMAN 1,020
I had a white lurcher 30 year ago, colour didn't seem to effect her catching ability 8 Quote Link to post
brenner 773
Me too deerman. And id own him again if he was still alive. Wouldnt hold it against a good dog. But having said that, some of the places i hunt, im not supposed to be there and have had to slink off into the shadows a few times when the garda or security have showed up. For me, life is just less hassle with a darker coloured dog. Probably for the same reasons i dont wear a wear a white jacket out for a nights hunting 1 Quote Link to post
Maximus Ferret 2,063
I agree Brenner. I've heard all the arguments as to how it makes no difference what colour your hound is but I STILL say that a white dog on open heath or fields is way more likely to be noticed than any other colour. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. 1 Quote Link to post

Bosun11 537
Does it really matter these days.... Yer, a white dog on open land stands out like a sore thumb but its never bothered the coursing lads, over half the dogs are near white and anyway, on open land whats more obvious the dog or its owner? Same with the night game, whats more obvious, a million plus candle power lamp or the dog thats running the beam. Oh and then there's the lamper(s), all togged out in realtree gimp suits an trainies, wooly hat on, behind the wheel of his mud splattered 4x4, van or estate....? Yer, them white dogs'll get yer shot...!!! Quote Link to post

Yer, them white dogs'll get yer shot...!!! Like I say, I've heard all the arguments over the years. I know what you're saying Bosun, but if I'm on a hillside overlooked by a farmhouse half a mile away, I'm hoping anyone there is too busy to notice me or my dog/dogs. I might or might not wear some camo but whatever I wear will be muted colours, usually greens or browns. Same if I'm stalking through the woods with or without a bow, same if I'm fishing for seatrout on the river.I like my dogs to be in fairly muted colours too. What the coursing lads do isn't relevant to me. If they have permission on land they're fine and when they haven't they spend half their time being chased by farmers or cops anyway. When I lived near Horncastle they were a total pain in the ass winding up all the local farmers to hate running dogs and making it difficult to get any permission, even for ferreting. Bosun11 537
I hear ya Max and can totaly relate to your reasoning as an individual with your style of hunting but on here, for the vast majority, the idea that a white dog is a 'no no' in this day and age is far outweighed by the different hunting styles folk choose. On a site as big as this i'd, in the main, rather quash the idea that a white dog should be avoided. Quote Link to post
